Lol THQ, I agree harecore titles don't sell well on the wii.

Really Hardcore games do not sell on any console, in order for game to be extremely succesful it needs to capture casual players.

Look at the sales of Ico or Okami on the PS2

Kinda like Final Fantasy VI or HaloI?....Not casual games by any means and still produces stellar sales.

That's because the definition of casual changes to fit the argument.  Last generation, casual games were GTA, Halo, and Madden.  That was because these games were played by the frat guys and the "hardcore" gamers wanted to distance themselves from this group.

Um...no. Casual games= Games with pick up and play style that doesn't take true care or learning. Basically...an upstart game, that usually appeals to casual party gamers. It is the type of game that you just pick up and have fun for funs sake. Casuals don't like a challenge.

IE: I was at my friends house yesterday and his moms friend wanted to play UFC: Undisputed. He realized the games controls were extremely deep and tactical, so he immediately gave up and said "this is why I hate those serious videogames..no offense, but they are for people who have no life". That is a multiplatform game and it is still too much for a casual. Halo was not and never will be a casual game. It was just an extremely popular shooter amongst shooter fans.

Umm...yes.

The fact that you are trying to refute this is laughable.  There is no denying that those games were considered by many to be the "casual" games of last generation.

Last Gen:

Halo = Casual
Madden = Casual
Mario Kart = Casual
Guitar Hero = Core
SSB = Casual
Pokemon = Casual
Super Mario (Sunshine) = Core
Okami (PS2) = Core
CoD = Casual

Now... Due to the expansion of the casual market:

Halo = Mainstream
Madden = Casual
Mario Kart = Mainstream
Guitar Hero = Casual
SSB = Mainstream
Pokemon = Core
Super Mario (Galaxy) = Mainstream
Okami (Wii) = Core
CoD = Mainstream

I can further categorize new IP's in this method:

Gears of War = Mainstream
MadWorld = Core
Wii(insert Here) = Casual
No More Heroes = Core
Rock Band = Casual
Brain Age = Casual
UFC = Casual

As you can see, none of the truly "Core" games sell extremely well this generation... and reutrning games from last generation often change categories of "coreness"

Im sorry but think about how really easy Halo is to pick up and play, to have some fun with your mates in local multiplayer? Of course it takes time and a lot of skill to be good but its a simple game that everyone can enjoy.

And its this same with Gran Turismo, SMG, Smash Bros or Mario Kart. Every "big" game out there is extremely accesible, and thats why those big brands are selling. They as casual as they are core.

I havent played UFC undisputed yet, but look at Street Fighter II everyone used to play that game, everyone enjoyed it on a different level it could've been a deep fighting game for someone, or just a button mashing experience.

Halo may be easy to pick up for experienced shooter fans, but not for casuals. If Halo was easy to pick up and play, then all console shooters are. Putting novice Halo players in a gaming arena with experienced Halo players is horrible to watch, because of all the destruction.

Street fighter 2 was a casual fighter, but by Street Fighter Alpha and Third Strike, Street Fighter was no longer aimed at the casuals. The controls demanded a moderate or higher understanding of fighters.

Take Blaz Blue for instance. That game is made for hardcore fighter fans, who grew up with Street Fighter, Guilty Gear and King of Fighters. Just because a game is big, it doesn't mean that it is a pick up and play game. It just means that it is a huge game with an interesting scheme, marketable characters and is an overall sellable product.

"Putting novice Halo players in a gaming arena with experienced Halo players is horrible to watch"

Comparing a very specific match setup to the entire game is a horrible analogy.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I still don't understand the Monopoly comparison. While that might be true, that Wii owners don't play their games for hours and hours like the typical HD console owner does, why does that matter? The Wii has a higher attach rate for SW than the PS3. I thought publishers were only concerned with how many units were sold, not whether the consumers actually spent tons of time playing the games.

If game "X" sells a million copies, but NO ONE plays the game they just bought, big deal. I think the charts that show hours played per console are meaningless. You can spend $50 on a Wii game that you play 1 hour per week, or $50 on a HD game that you play 10 hours per day. Either way, the publisher gets the same amount of money. argh...

Hardware is only a means to enjoy great games!

So tired of these 'third parties' saying the Wii doesn't allow their games to sell because only 'grannies and soccer moms' buy 'casual' games on the system. And I'd like to point out, it's only companies like THQ who made lackluster games for the system and then they didn't sell well that are whining about it.

Now third parties are actually making a lot of good games for the Wii, and still idiots like this are whining, its just dumb.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

One of the reasons of lack of quality hardcore games on the wii - people like him REFUSE to make good games so they start making 0 h core games

^click the license to level it up! Please, and thanks in advance!

=D

Well so what if Third Party developers make a good effort now?

By starving the Wii of any legitimate support for going on three years, you've cemented the idea in gamers heads that the Wii is a joke no matter what games it gets. Now when the Wii gets a good games, instead of people wanting to play that game on the Wii they just whine about how its not on the HD consoles.

To boot, piracy is at a fever pitch on the Wii now so anymore good luck geting hardcore budget bin efforts to sell more than 100k.

Good work developers, I know you thought you weren't burning any bridges by keeping just a shed of shovelware coming the Wii's way, but you've taken the one console this generation that could have viably acted as a lifeline for this harsh transition from PS2 to HD level gaming but no, you went it cold turkey and let the Wii atrophy to the point of practically no longer being a viable option. Oh, but its not your fault, we can't blame the sheep right, you were just grazing where ever the field was green; who'da thunk that a generation built on following the leader and copying every casual game concept Nintendo had and every original idea a handful of unique Western developers came up with would backfire on you. Hey remember when you made new and original games?

Go to a Gamestop and wait there for 15 minutes during the day. There is an extremely high chance you'll see someone come in there for a non-hardcore game. It will most likely be Wii Fit.
