mini-quote "the definitive version is looking to be the PC release" -Dodece original post

Not for me, I stopped playing my video games hunched over a screen at most 22 inches long ago. I don't care if a couple of maps are missing. BIg screen, surround sound, no MIcrosoft Windows.

Whether you call it "making excuses" or whatever clearly some developers don't want to make the extra effort to make their products work on the PS3 architecture. For reasons of money or whatever. And then again some do. And because of those excellent games that have been made, I don't buy the "blame the hardware" line either. PS3 hardware is still in its first year and of course it's not what they're used to. That will change, is changing.

What Viper1 said, PS3 has little RAM... and when you put it on a crappy 128-bit bus width, it just worsens the problem.

Off-topic: Hey Viper1, isn't it great when you can get 4GB of RAM for under $150? For me it tastes just like victory.

If they are talking about dropping maps, its probably memory related.

Some maps are just too large, allow to many players, use too many textures (etc).

Don't forget the PS3 has ONLY 256MB of system RAM (minus what the OS uses) + texture RAM.

If you tried to run this on a PC with only 512MB (+ extra for OS) the game would laugh at you.

...

So I wouldn't worry too much - just possible that there are some insanely detailed maps, and they don't fit in RAM. You do wonder about hard-disk use though - and using virtual memory on the PS3??

(the problem is likely to also be present on the 360 - and possibly worse)

Having been the bearer of bad news earlier this month when he suggested that Unreal Tournament 3 might not make its release date, Epic's Mark Rein has now said maps have had to be cut from the PlayStation 3 version because the next-gen system can't handle them.

...

Actually, I'll be a LOT more worried about potential slippage.

There might only be a month (or so) of development time left, if it is to make its November release (whatever day it is due on). And that's assuming Sony will fast-track submission & Q&A.

If this slips to January (or later), it would be the biggest blow to the PS3 Xmas lineup I could imagine?

Its the only thing that PS3 owners really have to look forward to before xmas, so i'd say it'd be a pretty big blow

Really dumb thread.

Any one wanna bet UT3 ships this year.

Well if ps3 can't handle it, then the 360 will never see it :P

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

wtf where are the charts.

lol, @finalsquall

So buy your reasoning the PS3 didn't have online for Virtua Fighter 5 not because of shorter development time, but because it couldn't handle it?

With extra development time developers can make one version of a game look far better than another, even if the latter is a (marginally) more powerful console. Thats why 360 graphics in general are better than PS3's at this point in time.

haha. Rachid joined just to ask where the charts were. This is how to grow membership and bring in the lurkers ioi, delay the charts! lol

I don't follow your reasoning... You say that the problem is likely memory related, and then you say it probably also happens on the 360, and "possibly worse"? The 360 allows for using more RAM than the PS3, and its OS uses less memory too...
