Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo 3, the truth about the games length!

So what the guy is saying is that Halo 3 is short?

Around the Network

what i am wondering s this...

you all are the same ones that regularly (well most of you) fault the wii for being packed with short mini games

But here you are all exicted about the fact that the only redeming feature of Halo # is all the mini games you play i.e deathmatchs, capture the flag, king of the hill, and so on

so i just gotta know why the double standard?

Well, I wouldnt necessarily call Halo's multiplayer games "mni" games. Its the meat of the Halo experience. They can involve teams of players fragging the crap out of each other over hours and hours. The experience is very much different.  No knock against the Wii games by the way (I like them), but they dont really compare to the chaos that is Halo multiplayer.

PS360 ftw!

Currently playing..........

Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked )

I don't know if it was my imagination or not, but back in the N64/Playstation generation it seemed like most of the best games tended to have single player campaigns in the 25 - 40 hour range, in the last generationg (PS2/XBox/Gamecube) that seemed to drop to 15 to 30 hours, and now it seems to be in the 8 to 15 hour range.

How many people think games are getting shorter because they're getting too expensive to develop and how many people think they're getting shorter because developers are cutting out more 'crap'?

Yeah, I thought the same. Whatever happened to the "epic" games? 15 hours was considered to be short, at least, in my book.

/hides book

i just dont get it...its not the main part of the story...its smaller games off to the side of the main story--by definition "minigames" i Mean we have all played death matchs that are over in mintues..and i have played Wii tennis matchs that have lasted for hours...so i am not seeing the differnce

some peple complain that games are to long so they wont due well...to them i have to say FF series--those average 30 + hours and that is with out going after every thing so they can still make them , and they will still sell well, i think it isjust that they want to get to the end of the race quicker to get the prize

yeah i totally agree that this 10 hour game crap is dumb. when it comes to an action game (or a platformer like mario) if the game is supposed to be one of those epic games like halo or mario i expect at least 15-20 hours. and hopefully more like 20-25. over 25 for that type of game is getting a bit long, but under 15 is just ridiculous. i have no idea how long it took me to beat the first two halos but i feel like it was way longer than 10 hours. of course dying and trying to beat a level over and over again added a few hours so maybe halo 3 will be the same, hopefully. but anytime i hear an action game be reviewed at taking less than 15 hours I get pretty mad when its a really big title. I blame metal gear solid for starting this. I remember reading the reviews of it taking 8-12 hours and at the same time sony claiming it was the best game ever... i laughed. My friend said it took him 8 hours to beat it the first time and 4 hours to beat it the second time. If a game is that ridiculously short its not even close to an epic game and the developers really dropped the ball no matter how great the short game is.

that said i'm very much looking foward to getting halo 3 in a few weeks but if it takes me much less than 15 hours i'm gonna be very disappointed, at least i can vent my disappointment in the live multiplayer though.

so perfect length for action/platformers is 20-25 hours.
someone mentioned rpgs, which i think a good length is 45 to 70 hours... with some rpgs we have the opposite problem where the game is way too long, like some of these 100 hour rpgs.

end of '08 predictions: wii - 43 million,  360 - 25 million, ps3 - 20 million

Games I've beat recently: Super Mario Galaxy, Knights of the Old Republic, Shadow of the Collossus

Proud owner of wii, gamecube, xbox, ps2, dreamcast, n64, snes, genesis, 3DO, nes, atari, intellivision, unisonic tournament 2000, and gameboy

LMAO 1080p on dvd?? hahahaha!!

On topic: If the game were to be 1080p and 60fps the length would drop from 9 hours to 6 hours, 1080p takes nearly double the space that 720p does. 9 hours isnt short in my opinion.

I only say that becuase I read/heard that they were trying to make H3 run at 1080p 60fps (sorry no source - not a big halo fan. That is why they have hdmi on the new 360. But like GT said in their review it wasn't the best gfx of thi gen :P

ok now people are to have to explain me how HDMI connects with 1080p ???? that's a effing legend that you need HDMI for 1080p...... HDMI is just a freaking BS format that constructor suport because it allow them better encryption and protection against piracy...... but most professional simply hate that effing ennoying format..... and it's yet to prove that you have a difference noticable between HDMI and otherHD connection......

and yes halo3 is in 1080p now 60fps I don't know I haven't checked..... but probably..... Bioshock was, wasn't it ??

The difference is the complexity of said games - mini-games are simple and uncomplicated, and ultimately *usually* require significantly less skill to master.  Because of the nature of motion controls, wii mini-games got something of a boost in terms of that, but it's still not something with the depth or complexity of something like Halo.  It's the same reason that say, Soul Calibur or Mario Kart aren't mini-games.
