If the SCE division did poorly enough the parent company could opt to disolve it or sell it off to make back some of what it lost. I don't see that happening, even if it's a giant tumor on Sony as a whole.

True, I suppose you didn't say you didn't like them, just that you didn't want them to buy your fav. gaming company.  It's still weird seeing Evil complain about Evil buying Good (?)..

Funny too, MS is the 'Evil Corporation' to a lot of people...but Sony fans say 'Come to the Dark Side..'  Who do we believe?!?

But the dark side represents 'coolness' in that context, not evil.

What would assets have to do with anything?

Assets are irrelevent when buying a company.  What matters is market cap.

Sony's Market Cap is about 35 Billion.  You'd probably have to put at least a 10-25% premium on that to get the sale to go through.

 

Microsoft theoretically could buy Sony... but they'd have to make a bunch of very visible moves.

There is no such thing as a company aquring another company the size of Sony as a "Surprise".

They wouldn't end the Playstation if they somehow bought Sony. They would probably melt the Xbox and the Playstation into one super system that dominates the Wii! muhahahaha

It sounds like something Microsoft would do if it could, but Sony wouldn't sell.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
