So, what does this mean? Is this something that has been sustained over a period of time, or is this a blip? Long term, does this mean this trend will continue?

Both. The medium will stay for a time but I wouldn't expect a fundamental switch as it happened with the DVD. The DVD had too many advatages but the Blu-ray is only a question fo quality. Movie buffas will take the Blu-ray but a very big part of the public will simply use the cheaper medium.

That's my gut feeling...until brd can match dvd in price, the public will take brd.

@heruamon: You mean the other way around. Unless BRD can match DVD in price, the public will take DVD

Blu-Ray is doing better then expected by alot.

Well...considering it won over HD-DVD...it had to either fail...or move forward, just like DVD did to Video Tapes. It took a few years, but look at DVD now. That' what Blu Ray will be in a few more years.

Unlike DVD Blu Ray has a lot more challenging its crown, which will mean it will never be as dominant as DVD was.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

Maybe...maybe not. No one can say for sure. All i know is...it is the upcoming new disc based format. DVD will have to step aside eventually...as for being challenged...that's a different story.

I woudn't expect Blu Ray movies prices to drop sub 20$ for a long time.
They will probably get to 20$ but not bellow.
The main reason is that if you look at the last years trends DVD prices have been heavilly discounted and there is no way distributors will try to match those discounts with their Blu Ray.

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

That is true...for now. But things can change soon enough. Maybe the process will be nearly as cheap as DVD in the near future. Maybe a new format will come out (like the Hologram Disc they have been talking about). But for now, Blu Ray is doing better than most people expected.
