Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 360 Warranty question

A friend of mine has a Halo 3 edition Xbox 360 that RROD-ed on him about 2 months ago, and he told me that since he doesn't have the receipt, they are charging him $120 or so to fix it. If I'm not mistaken, don't all 360s come with a 3 year warranty? If so, shouldn't they fix it regardless since it's a Halo 3 xbox 360, and Halo 3 came out back in 2007, making it less than 3 years, or do you still need a receipt?

Tell him to go about fixing it online, not over the phone. It's much quicker and you don't have to talk to a retard on the phone. If he enters the serial number online it will automatically detect it's not 3 yers old and automatically slot is as a warranty repair. They'll send him a box and it'll be a couple weeks or so before he gets it back. No receipt is required, just a serial number.

He probably needs his receipt as far as I know. But this is just a logical guess.

^^^ No receipt needed, just a serial number. When my sister's bf sent his in he went through the online repair service and only needed to use a serial number. Microsoft repair center sorts the rest out.

Ah ok.

nope you don't need a receipt..

They should just ask for the number on the back of the 360 to see if its still under warranty

Unless you're dealing with the store he bought it at for some odd reason, there's no need for a receipt. The only thing MS service cares about is the consoles serial number.

As long as it's less than three years old and it's actually something covered by the warranty (everything isn't) he should be fine.

I had a launch 360 die on me in January. Went online and put in a serial number. They sent me a box and I shipped it off. I guess they saw it was a launch 360 and said F that and they sent me a new one. Took 2 weeks, but my brother's took a month.

Thanks guys... Looks like I might be jumping in very cheap : ) (he said that he would sell it to me as is). Hey, ummm...so what is that website to get it fixed online? I'm guessing microsoft.com or w/e

Edit: If i get it repaired, will it come with the falcon chip (so the chances of it RROD-ing again lessening) or w/e or will it be practically the same one?

well when you register your XBox you get a year that shows on your registration page, but for E-74 and RRD you get 2 years past the first year for a total of 3 years for E-74 and RRD. but the born date on the XBox and the day you bought it might not be the same.

i went threw this with a fiends 360 when his XBox E-74 on him, they wanted to go by the born date on the box verses the day he bought it. then after he sent it in they lost it and his info on his registration screen disappeared like he never even had a XBox at all and costumer service couldn't find any of the number they gave him on 3 service calls. so that's when i started flooding there escalation department in the U.S e mails of screen pics of his Microsoft registration page and copy's of the receipt when he bought it.

this trouble doesn't happen very often but it can happen. always make copy's of your receipts for important things as the print on receipt paper tends to fade in a years time and always take a screen capture of your registration page to show you did buy and did register there product in case they loose 3 tracking numbers, 1 UPS tracking number and 1 registration page.

Yep, i'm a girl
