Forums - Sales Discussion - Why the PS3 will not last long, let alone 10 years.

Reasons it will last 10 years:

1. Sony has the best future exclusives. Nintendo and Microsoft have already released all their big series (Mario, Zelda, Halo, etc) but as for PS3...Gran Turismo, God of War, and Final Fantasy (still exclusive in Japan) haven't even come out yet.

2. 360 has already hit the $200 price point and that didn't kill the PS3. Wii has been $250 all along and that didn't kill the PS3. And Sony still hasn't dropped below $400 yet. Sometime in the future the PS3 will drop to $300 then eventually to $200 when they can afford to lower the price. That will help increase the install base dramatically.

3. Blu-ray. Do I need to say more than those 2 words? Once PS3 is down to $300 that will be a great deal; you get an high quality game system and a high quality Blu-ray player for one reasonable price.

4. Future Proof: Yeah...this arguement again. PS3 constantly updates their system via firmware updates. Remember when there was no in game XMB, no trophies? Yeah firmware updates changed that. If anything ever needs changed Sony can easily release another firmware update to fix it.

We need Roland here!!!

article is written by an absolute stupid idiot.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Good analysis Smashchu, I've enjoyed reading your posts especially your most recent ones, keep up the great work. As for my take, the 10 year plan was always a pipe dream. Sony doesn't determine such things, the market does. I too believe PS3 has peaked it is declining yoy and is already headed toward -100k per week.

One thing I am not on agreeance on is that when third parties come it puts pressure on Nintendo to release a new system. Third parties wouldn't determine that, again, it would be the market.

Other than that, yeah, your pretty spot on..as usual.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

The Wii was mostly successful because of appealing to the casual gamers, and their motion controlls and their price had a bigger impact then their content. Also, how is the PS3 dying, its priced double the amount of the 360's and yet is selling almost the same weekly even when the 360 had a price cut in december.

Raf: It is the content that sold the Wii, motion controls are meaningless if it doesn't have the software that utilizes it. Also, the Price excuse is pretty moot at this point. Price didn't save the Cube from 3rd place.

Not many Wii owners bought Wii sports. It only did really good because Wii sports was bundled with ALL Wii's. Until sometime in late 08 they stopped bundling it. If you dont believe me, watch Wii sports Resorte. It wont do so good. It will probably pass 3 mill - 6 mill, but thats because of the bundling with the wii mote and wii mote motion plus thing. Alone, it will probably sell no more than 1 mill

When was the last time Sony acknowledged it's ten year plan?
