Forums - Gaming Discussion - 30 FPS vs. 60 FPS

FPS = Frames per second, if you didnt know

My question is this... does it really make a difference if a game is 30 or 60 fps? Can the human eye detect the difference? Can you list some games that are 30 and/or 60 fps, and give good examples of why fps matters in the games?

I never ever notice framerate drops in games and I consider myself lucky because some people seem to be very bothered by it.

Signature goes here!

what bothers is anything going as less than 20 fps, and can be irritating to hardcore gamers.

the only thing I ever noticed is some games slowing down when theres explosions and such. or in Gears 2 when youre riding that elephant looking creature at the end...it slowed down a lot for me. probably way under 30 fps.

well 60 first person shooters
are 30 first person shooters
more than 30 first person shooters
so I think 60 first person shooters
are better than 30 first person shooters
because you simply get more first person shooters
when you have 60 first person shooters
instead of just 30 first person shooters
, but if you don't like first person shooters
than 30 first person shooters
is probably better for you than 60 first person shooters
because you don't like first person shooters
at all

How can 720p be considered HD when it looks like ugly snow grains on my 22'' screen?

If you are used to 60 fps in a fast moving game then yes you will notice the difference compared to a 30 fps game.

prediction: wii to sell 150million console by end of 2010

So long as the FPS is locked, I don't care what it is. In fact, I'd be fine down to 20. The real problem is when they dip, as I can easily notice that.

On some games I don't mind the dips. Like in SSF2T:HDRemix, the dips make me think that I just pulled off some massively cool move and hit the opponent so hard that his world slowed to a crawl

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I don't think most people can really notice the difference as long as the frame rate is locked at a certain value. The really problem happens when the frame rate starts jumping all over the place. That is much easier to notice.
