5. RETRY'S -

4. CONVIENT SAVE POINTS -

3. TOO MUCH MONEY -

2. POWER LEVELING -

1. DITCHING RANDOM ENCOUNTERS -

5 & 4:  You're not making the game more or less challenging by adding these.  You're reducing tedium.

3 & 2:  Old RPGs required you to spend countless hours fighting the same enemies over and over to afford items and allow you to survive the next area.  This didn't make the game more fun, it simply made it longer.  Out of all the things you can do in a jRPG, grinding the same enemies over and over is quite possible the least fun thing you can do.

1:  Personal preference thing.  I don't care either way.

I REALLY want to respond to this..but dont feel like typing a huge answer..but what I get your saying is this has to do more with tedium then difficultty in which I dissagree..come on retrys and save points near bosses dont make easy??

Xenosaga, not Xenogears. And I can't believe you call FF12 the biggest FF breeze ever, specially considering most FFs are rather easy. FF12, though, I have to admit, had an uneven difficulty, the start was very hard, then when you got the quickenings it was pretty much mild and the end it was challenging again

Really??..the MAIN game of FF12 was way, the optional bosses and a few hunts were challenging, but MAIN game was easy

Well, I don't do much sidequests, so it wouldn't be strange if the final boss was more difficult for me than for you since it's more likely I reached it with lower level and worse equip. But the start was hard, I mean, there was a boss (a fire horse, maybe? Don't remember well) that killed me more than 5 times for sure, and a couple more of those bosses were a pain to beat, and while I may not be the best JRPG player, I don't consider myself a noob

EDIT: And if you don't like the retry option, skip it and load your saved game. If you don't like the abundance of save points, skip them. There, problem solved

This is a fail thread. Try Xenogears. Try Xenosaga Episode 2, and you`ll eat those words. Oh, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 on DS on hard mode. Good luck to ye.

I own all those except tatics, and once again minus a few optional fights they were medium difficulty

JRPGs are easy since the snes, see chrono trigger, every seems to like it, yet its very easy, all FFs(but FF1 on nes and FFV) are easy, in contrast DQ on nes is hell, tales can only be considered difficult in mania mode.

How does doing the same thing over and over again make a game difficult?  It doesn't.  It just makes it boring.  Going through a dungeon you've already done is a waste of time, and not at all challenging.

There is absolutely NO reason not to have a retry option for a boss, or at least a nearby save.

its funny you mention tales....becuase it was the game on my mind the most

4: what games have 3 saves per dungeon? I probably would stop playing if I kept playing through a dungeon for an hour got to the boss died and had to do it over again multiple times. One save point per dungeon makes sense, and that is what most rpg games that I have played has.(I haven't played any Xbox 360 rpg's so maybe that has changed)

3 agreed on money but oh well

2 for those of us that love to level up to max level and spend hours upon hours leveling up that is perfectly fine.

1 Random encounters become quite annoying after a while. I generally don't skip a fight because it's too hard but because I don't feel like playing the same fight for the 8th time in a row.

Random encounters don't make them harder, just more annoying. All anyone ever did was MP heal after every battle anyway.

Guys Im not saying this makes JRPG's hard, Im saying the removal of these has lowered challenge
