Yeah i've had mine since christmas of 07 and mine is still kickin
I've been savin up money just in case it does so i can go ahead and get me a new one though lol

am surprise your machine last that long! dont worry, you will get it repaired in no time :)

Are you also going to bitch to Ford or GM when your car breaks down out of warranty too? Do you want them to hold your hand and tell you everything's going to be okay? You own something that broke outside of it's manufacturer's promised warranty. Keyword is outside. That means the manufacturer fufilled it's promise. It's on you now. It costs $150, do you want it fixed or not?

People who complain about this kill me, I don't care if it's 'been happening'...it's nowhere near the scale of RROD. How many of those consoles are still going strong?

Unfortunately, there's a failure rate with everything and your product falls into that percentile. We apologize, but hopefully for your convenience we will have a slightly cheaper model out after 3 years that will have a little lower failure rate. *que MS business strat*

It's similar to RROD, but again nowhere near the scale. The same strategy applies, you just don't have to doll out a billion like MS did.

wow..tripple?

What a moron.
If he looked around on the INTERNET(the thing he posted his complaint on) he would have found that if your PS3 gives you a YLOD from updating a firmware you can switch out the HDD reformat the new one and it will work again.
My brother had that happen to him when I updated his firmware so I just backed up the content on my HDD. Put it in his, reformated, took it out and put his HDD back in then reformated it. Hit the update button and he was good to go with the newest firmware. He lost his saved data but it was free. And he hasnt had any problems with his PS3 since.

I made a thread about lights of death and warranty periods a few weeks ago.

If you are lucky enough to live in a country with enlightened consumer protection laws then you will be protected from having to fork out for any problems associated with manufacturing faults for the reasonably expected lifetime of your console. I put a reasonable expectation of a console's lifespan at 4 or 5 years. Manufacturers might argue 3 years, but no way in hell they would get away with 1 year. That means here in New Zealand I would not be required to pay for YLOD, RROD or any Wii equivalent until 4 or 5 years after I had purchased a console.

I'm pretty sure New Zealand isn't the only country with good consumer protection laws. Everyone should check out what sort of consumer guarantees legislation there is in their country. You might find you have more backing for getting a free repair/replacement than you thought. While it doesn't mean you will get all your game data back if you need a repair/replacement job done, it does mean you won't need to pay for the privilege of losing your game data. And you will get a functioning console returned to you. If you also have ready access to a regulator who administers those laws then you can threaten the manufacturer with a complaint, which will cost you nothing for the regulator to review and if the complaint is upheld then it would become a matter of public record and it means other consumers that got stiffed for repairs might come out of the woodwork and the company wouild be up for some major refunding of past repair bills.

Of course any modifications you make to your console that would invalidate the warranty will also mean you are no longer covered by any consumer protection laws.

I agree, with Undying too.

everything goes bad after a while. But atleast M$ will pay for your repairs.
