Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 Europe Preorders.

GAME, Europe's biggest specialist game retailer is gearing up for one very profitable day for sales - the launch of Sony's new Playstation 3. Charing £50 for a preorder in the UK in order to ensure you get a console on launch day, GAME is one of the few places that guarantees preordered customers a console on launch amid fears from many stores that there will be a huge shortage of the console. Despite this, information has leaked from the GAME head offices that only two thirds of their PS3 allocation have been preordered, despite best attempts of staff in stores across Europe. One third of PS3 consoles remains free for people to pick up on the day under two weeks before launch. "We've had a lot of interest in the console, mostly from PS2 owners looking to upgrade, but the price is putting many off," one store manager said. "It looks like you may be able to just walk in and pick one up without a preorder on launch day. Source RPGSite

Well thats good ,it wouldnt be cool if nobody could go to the shop and buy the console the launch day . Besides ,maybe someone around here can confirm this ....there is a persistant rumor around here that the console allocation for launch has improved something .It is know for sure that the allocation for UK has passed from 220k to 300K and some of the shops in my country are telling they will receive more consoles that previously tought .

Yep that is correct , 300k is closer to the figure allocated . The blu ray drive shortages are well done with i expect if sony sell 60-70% i think though it will be 80% of all consoles available the will have quadrupled all wii sales in one day and in the uk well on the way to the xbox 360 .

I think that pal regions is getting more then 1 million consoles. Even if it sells 60-70% its good for Sony. The problem is that UK is getting lik 220k+ and Sweden is getting 10k consoles and UK is not 20 times as big as Sweden. So its going to be PS3 shortages in Sweden for a while and other countries is getting to much.

Its going to be the biggest launch ever, and Sony fans will go nuts... And then they'll realize it was only so big because Sony could so comfortably allot so many units for Europe, due to a hardware surplus in the rest of the world.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Quote of the day. Right on. Europe gains where Japan and NA have failed Sony. Hopefully the launch goes well. Even if it doesn't sell out, IMO, it's not bad when you have nearly 1m units to launch with. Didn't the Wii only have 300k Europe-wide? UK is getting just that many alone. Good job Sony. Lets just pray they can either keep the momentum, or let my wonderful X360 increase sales with 'the Sony effect' (people realising the PS3 is too overpriced/not a major diff between the 360, therefore higher sales for the 360)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

One of the big offers at Game is to trade in your premium 360 and get 240 euro off the price of the PS3 at launch, my friend is considering it after seeing trailers for 'home' etc. So the 'Sony effect' might not work exactly as you are thinking.

Well thats true also in my country ,the Game centers are offering a discount of the PS3 trading the X360 and some people are doing exactly that .You can also trade your Wii or PS2 but you dont receive as much discount ....

According to charts on front page: Japanese + american sales for Wii = 4.17 million* Japanese + american sales for PS3 = 2.13 million Puting these numbers into perspective for people. The PS3 supposedly is harder to build. People consider it to have no good games and the big wallop is that it is $600 dollars in comparison to $250. For a system that is almost 3 times as expensive and has no games I think the PS3 is doing quite well. It also doesn't seem to be recieving quite a stomping as people would like to make it seem (by adding european data to Wii sales) Seriously can people here really say the PS3 is not selling well? Have I asked that before? *Edit for correction - thanks Erik

No for God's sake i think the PS3 sells VERY good for a 600$ console with no games BUT i think that it's still not enough to place it first... even if PS3 wins the war (i believe it's unlikely though) i think the Wii will be second with no big difference from the PS3. Still, i think that nintendo will be happy even with the 2nd place!
