Why evade the question? Why not be a man and take your responsibility for your own mistakes. You charged thousands of dollars, and now you're going to pay the price. This is, in your mind, the fault of the President, who, one supposes, held a gun to your head.

I understand that people who are bad with money, in the aggregate, need help, if only because otherwise they'll sink the rest of us. But individually, it's just sort of sad.

Again, read my posts and get to know me before you act like you do. I clear $4,000 a month. I live debt free. I have not carried a balance on any card for years. I only have a small one now because weddings cost a lot. I have 15,000 sitting in a savings account I chose not to use. I know how to take care of myself.

No one in this forum... and I mean no one, takes more responsibility for there actions then me. Aside from the 30,000 a year the government takes from me, nothing about my finances is anyones fault but my own.

The interest rates on credit cards 300 million people are about to see, is the presidents fault. If they have a balance, that's theirs.

Wait, Obama runs the credit card companies? Are you returning to reality anytime soon?

If the govt didn't limit rate hikes, what, do you think they wouldn't have gone up?

And seriously, your OP is there for all to see. Let's get a timeline.

1. You spend money you don't have.

2. Obama limits future rate interest hikes to protect people who spend money they don't have, i.e., you.

3. Credit card companies get once last predatory swipe at you in under the wire.

But your (remember, a guy who "takes more responsibility for there (sic) actions" than anybody) response was to blame Obama? Out of the three actors in this little play, he deserves the least blame. The majority of it falls squarely on you. And derspite your self-aggradizing paeans to your own responsibility, you've yet to acknowledge that. Instead, you bizarrely posted your finances. What, are we supposed to be impressed? Are you one of those guys who announcees the bill when he picks up the check in a restaurant, so everybody can see what big dicks wallets they have?

This is a seriously sad little thread. And what's even sadder are that there are millions more like you in America, full of blind, incoherent rage for everyone and everything but themselves.

If it's really that sad of a thread then why did you respond to it?

Because in spite of my first post, I do feel sorry for this guy. He really is getting screwed over, but his biases won't let him identify the true sources of his troubles.

Credit card companies really are predatory. Their practices are as sleazy as you could imagine, rivaling 1920s Wall Street.

But then, this is common knowledge. If you take money from them, knowing full well that they can raise the interest anytime they like, you need to accept that you were the primary author of your own misfortune.

So let me see if I get this straight. You come into this thread, call me irresponsible, to the point of forcing me to explain why a few thousand dollars is not a huge deal in my finance bracket, and then call me a dick for explaining it.

Go away little man.

Umm, when did I call you a dick? Point it out and I'll cover your credit-card bill.

If you read the rest of his responses he said he's not getting screwed over or in any trouble at all personally.  His main point was how these new policies affect credit card companies, interest rates, and the consumers.

And I agree, credit card companies do prey on stupid people who charge more than they have, but what they do is of course completely legal.  It's all in the fine print when you sign the contract and it's the consumer's responsibility to know what they are agreeing to.

I'm glad we agree that current credit-card practices are predatory.

What you seemed to have missed is that Obama is acting to limit those practices. But, bizarrely, you're blaming him for them. Again:

1. The companies are predatory.

2. Obama acts to limit their abuses.

3. They abuse one last time before the limits begin.

How did you get to 4. This is all Obama' fault? Do you honestly believe that the were never going to raise the rates again, even though you concede that they are, in fact, sleazy just like that? We went from a possible future of endless raises to a present reality of just one.

For the love of god, did the man kill your fucking dog or something? It's like every day you have a new Obama topic. I mean at some point you have to ask if this is healthy.

Also congrats on your nuptials man. Marriage is a wonderful thing, and best of luck to you. Just don't blame Obama for anything that happens on your wedding night ;)

The next 4 years, will be the biggest erosion of my liberties over a 4 year span, in my lifetime. Yea, they have been eroding my entire life, but the rate I am going to lose them just sped up by a huge margin.

You think complaining a few minutes a day on a video games forum is going over the top with respect to this issue? My god, how complacent have we become?

You can't argue with the cult of Obama. They would defend him to the grave.

Thanks for showing that you know nothing about Vagabond. You also aren't participating in the discussion other than in an antagonizing way, so you should probably just get out. As for Mafoo, Vagabond has a point. It's not a matter of complacency, it's a matter of obsession. You make a new thread about how much Obama sucks seemingly every other day. Even the most radical Republican members at the height of the election couldn't have that claim to fame.

All I've understood from this thread is that credit card companies are going to raise interest now instead of later. Big...deal?

Thank you montana. I knew we had a bromance for a reason...or did I just kill it by using the word "bromance"?

1.  Credit card companies are predatory but do not use illegal business practices.  Many other businesses prey on the shortcomings of people (such as cigarette companies) to make money.  But also there is (obviously) a big market for credit cards, and the companies have to make a profit somehow, otherwise what would be the point?

2. Obama does act to limit their "abuses."  However his actions will have unintended consequences.  His noble intentions will actually make things worse.

3. When the rules change the credit card companies have to also change their policies to continue being profitable.  How can you blame a company for wanting to make as big of a profit as they can?

4. So yes, this is Obama's fault.  If he seriously didn't foresee this cause-and-effect situation then it's worrying for what other unintended consequences there will be in his future legislation.

I'm only going to comment on #3 there. It's pretty easy to blame a company for trying to make the biggest profit possible if doing so is actually bad for society/markets as a whole. The free market is powerful and it's potential for innovation is amazing, but it does have that downside. Once companies become large enough to wield inordinate influence over society/politics/the markets it will almost always use that to it's own short term advantage even if it's harmful to everything else. I believe in the strongly in the free market, but I don't think it's god and I am very willing to admit it's shortcomings.

This was the point of this thread.

As for Credit Card companies being predatory, I am not so sure that in reality, that's true. They find ways to offer credit to those who could otherwise not get it. What Obama is in effect doing, is lowering the number of people who credit will be offered to in the future.

Not always a bad thing, but more of a parenting tactic, that I don't think should be the responsibility of the government.
