Few franchises elicit passions in gamers quite like Hideo Kojima's epic Metal Gear Solid series. The trials of Snake and his fight against an ever-expanding cast of colorful villains started as a clever stealth game on the NES, but with the advent of the PlayStation, Kojima felt he had the tools to truly deliver on his vision for the series. Metal Gear Solid was cinematic in every sense of the word, from the opening credits to the finely directed cutscenes. Over the course of eight or so hours of play, gamers dug deep into a murky conspiracy involving a top-secret military program that had implications far beyond the Alaskan base that served as the main backdrop for Snake's adventure.
