Forums - General Discussion - Upcoming potential 'CULT' movies thread...

With the summer blockbuster season underway I thought it would be interesting to focus on some lesser known movies that will be coming out in the near to not so near future(or that have come out in the last few years). There are some cool sounding movies being unveiled at cannes and the various other film festivals around the world.

Low budget(not a prerequisite)/Horror/sci-fi/martial arts/arthouse movies that probably don't even have a release date but have a trailer/website will be featured. Any interesting contributions are most welcome. I will start with the very over the top, 'Shaun of the Dead' inspired Doghouse:

Playing: Borderlands(great co-op,HUGE amount of content),Too Human(better late than never lol),Saints Row 3(Penetrator ftw),Minecraft 360,Harry Potter Lego.

Patiently waiting for:  Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2

The latest Indonesian martial arts extravaganza, Merantau. Watch until the end as the action only intensifies.

Lars Von Trier is back with Anitchrist. It looks like his most commercial movie for a long time but only because it's in the horror genre. Advance word suggests it's pretty horrific/gruesome but utterly beautiful. Expect a shitstorm when it eventually releases later in the year.

IRON SKY from Finland. Plot: The Nazis set up a secret base on the moon in 1945 where they hide out and plan to return to power in 2018. Not out until next year. Teaser of epic proportions:

It may have been a major release, but it's going to be one of those movies every nerd has in their collection (including me) when it releases on home media:

@ twestern

Agreed. I can't wait for the director's cut on blu-ray, full 28 minutes of extra goodness in the movie!

Apparently the Watchmen extended cut is rumoured to be getting a limited re release in theatres before the DVD drops. It's a pretty good way to drum up publicity for the DVD. It will have a tonne of extended/deleted scenes plus The Black Freighter story will be intergrated. Personally, I can't wait.

MOON. This looks great. I guess it hinges on wether they can effectively pull off the 'twist'.

Antichrist and Moon look good.  Yeah you should look at twitch, its a great site for foreign and independent film news, they do a rundown every few weeks on AICN.  btw, good thread.

This looks great, german film about natzi zombies.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
