Forums - Sales Discussion - If the PS3 Slim is legit and releases at $299 - What will it do for sales?

The slim and cheaper PS3 will achieve lightspeed within two months, spin around the world axis a minute later and go back in time to win the console war for all times. Just watch it burn rubber. Let's hope it doesn't crash with Doctor Who.

errr let's not get too carried away kiddies this is nothing but a rumour. I thought it will bollocks but the pictures were torn down from the site and it comes from the same company whom manufacture PS3's.

At least I would expect PS3 sales to beat 360 sales in EU every week from then on in and that is if it releases at $300 (would definitely release at a cheaper price.) It's not too early anyway since the PS2 Slim came after 4 years, PSP after 3 so I'm sure Sony want to help this struggling console.

The biggie? Sony expects a 30% increase in PS3 sales so they have something up their sleeves.

Edit - Those of you making jokes please try a little harder, so bad thus far. :(

This is a thread about a said to be PS3 slim.........you do understand that PS3 production costs will decrease by a huge amount?

Like a broken record kowenicki, playing the same awful song. :(

yes say it louder, much louder like a dirty girl.

Sony expect a 30% increase in sales so this could be a reason.

If Sony could manage to drop the price to $300 that would greatly help sales. How many years is it going to take for the PS3 to match the launch price of previous Playstation consoles?

Can Sony afford to sell a $300 PS3 though? Doesn't sound like it will help the debt PS3 made.

Increased revenue from increase PS3 software sales will more than make up for losses on PS3 hardware sales. The cost of production of PS3 towards end of 2009  should be close to $350 per PS3 unit and the cost per unit would be expected to drop lower over future revisions.

But MS and Nintendo could also drop their prices. That's a risk that could hurt Sony even more so. My guess is Sony will play it safe and keep selling it for $400 at least for the rest of the year. The PS3 isn't breaking records but at this rate the PS3 might see a profit.

can anyone translate cantonese??

What are you referring to, the 5 characters on the pic or something else?

If this is the PS3 slim, then it needs some serious work on the design, it honestly looks awful compared to the regular PS3 and the PS2 slim.

If it looks like it does in the pictures, the sales will...plummet.

seriously, looks like crap from those pics.

also, PS3's in top pic look standard. what am I missing?

There was nothing left to be said in the other thread kowenicki...........surely you are not this childish? The slim or price cut will have to come this fiscal year because that is the year Sony expect a 30% increase in sales. None of us know what PS3 production costs are now but rest assured a PS3 Slim would decrease production costs.

I have no link..........just an IQ exceeding a banana.

I don't know about it, looks kinda a prototype of some sort, this would of course explain the ugly look...but then again it could be just a fake one.

I personally think sales will rise. I like the way of it's look. It's a PS3...smaller. The cheaper price will definitely get more than few people to buy one.

@RPG

You assume one thing, I assume another... doesnt make either of us more correct RPG....

I fail to see how a slim reduces costs in the short term or helps them not make a $1bn loss on the hardware over the next 12 months.

I thing what RPG is trying to say is along the lines of the following.

Say you sell a burger in inch thick wrapping that costs 5c.

Then you change the packaging to stuff that costs 2c and put the thing on a smaller bun saving i dunno...10c per burger.

If you charged $3.50 for the old burger, now you can charge $3.40 and make an extra 2c per burger.

Also, smaller units are smaller to crate up, and more can be put in a crate saving shipping costs

The list goes on...

I'm not sure if he's %100 correct though, only time will tell. After all, someone has to be paid for designing and testing the burger
