Capcom - Spyborgs is an ‘obvious risk’

A portion of a VideoGamer interview with senior producer Daryl Allison…

VideoGamer.com: The Wii is an interesting platform. Whenever a hardcore third-party game comes out for it it seems to struggle in terms of sales. How much of a risk is Spyborgs? How do you appeal to both hardcore gamers and typical Wii owners?

DA: To answer your first question about the risk, you guys wouldn’t be asking me if it wasn’t an obvious risk. The numbers say it’s a little more challenging to, as a third-party, break out and have a hit on the Wii. That’s a given. I guess you could say I’m not surprised that recent mature-rated games on the Nintendo platforms, of which I can think of two, I’m not going to name them because I don’t want to be offensive to anyone… it’s disappointing that they didn’t succeed, but I don’t think anyone expected them to. At least for the Wii, based on the market data, you can look on the games that sell for the Wii, there’s nothing anywhere close to mature-rated content that sells well. You could sit back and hope a hardcore game would release for the Wii and succeed and blaze that trail…

Here they go again. They obviously hate the Wii and their PR is BS because RE4 and RE:UC, both cheap to make games by them with M ratings sold really good. Why are they even making RE:DSC? Besides Spyborgs isn't even getting a M rating, so this is all crap.

Terrible Capcom, I won't be buying your crap anymore if you continue to open your mouth to spout shit about the Wii and flat out lie.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

What a BS... no, what a -Bullshit- interview that was.

I really hate Capcom. (Note: I hated them before this interview anyways :P )

....huh i guess Darkside Chronicles is not a mature *hardcore* game.

Why dont they make it for PS360 instead then?

Neither Monster hunter Tri.

There are 4 M-rated games on the Wii that sold over a million. Most of the other M-rated games on the Wii suck.

Capcom sucks.

The RE brand sells regardless of the console. But yeah i agree, M-rated gamed games aren't suited for the Wii's demographics, Capcom is better off making party games, or Fitness games.

Why are people (fanboys) bad mouthing Capcom, what have they said wrong? If a game like Madwords struggles to 0.20 million and Fitness Coach 1 million I see nothing wrong with what Capcom said. Nothing is wrong with the userbase but most will not purchase M rated games.

So far in this thread a couple people have got really touchy about what a PR said and that too a correct statement, how very sad. Anyway Capcom is giving Wii MH3 so people should be happy.

Because the word of a single PR guy equates to the view point of an entire multinational company...

*Gratuitous falme-bait signature that mocks two or more consoles while praising another*

lulz, of course you would say that :P

Anyway, I still don't believe this PR guy. What he said doesn't seem to coincide with what they're doing. If they really believed this, RE, MH3 (hardcore but not M), Spyborgs (also hardcore but not M) would not be on the Wii.

Nintendo moneyhatting?
