Forums - Gaming Discussion - E3 Tends to Bring the Worst Out of Us

Tensions have definitely been rising as we have entered a countdown of less than one month until E3.  There are always tensions and arguments that cause heated debates (Wii is doomed, who has better graphics) before this.  However, the turning of E3 from a PR event into a challenge of massive proportions on a scale that "makes or breaks ya" really does turn people into demons.  You see this before and after every E3.  Instead of enjoying the competition the competitors show that ultimately makes the gamers lives a hell of a lot better, we instead fight over them.

Already there are debates of who will do the best, or speculation of which game will go where and whatnot.  There are people already at cutthroat over who will have the best.  Old arguments stirring again.  Is this what we should be discussing before E3, or should we be talking about the possibilities... not the war.  It's a war or competition between the developers.  For us, in a capitalist market, that's a good thing because they are trying to please us and the media.

Guys we should discuss and debate, even heated, over things about E3 or even who wins.  But let's not ruin the event.  E3 is supposed to be a great time for gamers.  This is when "dreams" essentially do come true in the gaming world.  Twilight Princess back at E3 2004 or the Halo 3 trailer at E3 2005.  Or even the God of War 3 trailer at E3 2008.  I mean these are great times to be gamers.  Debate and argue with your "rivals" all ya want but remember this is a great time for all of us.  Try to enjoy it and not get too lost in the competition.  We'll all have better memories of these conferences if we do it that way.

i agree, the whole talk about E3 is whos gonna win

we should talk about the games and news!

Yeah, because it's obvious the only person winning at E3 is going to be me.

...

I mean I will discuss who wins and what not to the death like anyone else, but I'm more excited about what they will show me... not who will win. I think people are just forgetting that every now and then. If something good comes to one console that is not a break of comfort to your console but a good thing as a whole for the industry. Try not to see it so personally guys. Debate it but don't go cutthroat.

The gamers are gonna win,we get to see alot of new stuff and also the stuff we are dying to to see

Stop trying to ruin a great time for haters and lamers!

Tease.

All I want from E3 is a mess of new stuff from Nintendo, including a new Zelda and announcements that much of the stuff they haven't been bringing overseas will now be localized.

Nothing else excites me. I'm not saying I'm not interested in anything else, nor that I won't play anything else - as evidenced by my game library - but I'm not waiting for anything else.

Yeah, i don't really get the idea of E3 as a competition, if was meant to be as such there would be competitions or votes or prizes or something. Kojima and Miyamoto in a dance off for example or perhaps Reggie vs Peter Moore in the ring, then at least we could have a real objectively decided winner and loser.

E3 and other gaming events have turned into a fanboy's war since internet overtook other media. I mean, back in the day I was glad to see what Nintendo had announced, but like in the next issue of the magazine or even better, on the TV show that aired 3 times a week.

Now those are meaningless and people are now able to voice their opinions, fears and emotions at forums, blogs, etc. With the introduction of internet as a better and faster way of getting information, came the fans which never really discussed so fiercely about gaming because they could only do it with a friend or two. Now these discussions bring over people from around everywhere and there's a lot of different stances. Fanboys and people who like gaming in general will always have a preference deep inside them. It's at E3 where all hopes are either crushed or materialized, so tension grows as the date closes in and as info surfaces. Info that gives fanboys the rights to brag or info that gives fanboys the rights to mock the other consoles. And this cycles accelerates itself geometrically as E3 closes in.

I admit I am part of this, it's almost inevitable once you are caught into the hype.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Seriously, as long as Nintendo doesn't bone this one up with no real announcements and their happy little "Look, we're making money!" speech, I would be happy. It was cool maybe the first year, then.....

I really do want to play some good games on my wii, I really do.

Yeah, I finally have a sig.
