Rune Factory Frontier. I've heard it's a great game!

I haven't played Dawn of the New World, but based on my experiences with the first one and an understanding that it's acknowledged as being intrinsically inferior to its predecessor...

Pick up Rune Factory Frontier. I'd probably recommend Harvest Moon: Magical Melody before that, but of those three listed I'm gonna recommend Rune Factory.

Damn Runeys!

I actually did try Harvest Moon: magical melody and I quite liked it. I just wanna see some opinions on whats good and why, as maybe ill like ToS or Rune Factory a little more than Harvest.

On a side note I played harvest magical melody for like 8 hours straight on the Wii but for some reason it didnt save. Left a sour taste in my mouth! This was proably a month into owning my wii, which would have been a few years ago.

This may be a stupid question, but did you have a Gamecube memory card? You need one to save Gamecube game files! Also it has to be in Slot A, rather than Slot B.

Honestly, if we were talking about the original ToS, Rune Factory Frontier, and Magical Melody? I'd probably recommend Frontier, still, but only because of the combat. I would recommend it above the others without hesitation if it weren't for the Runey system. If you can get Runeys to work for you, then Rune Factory is wonderful. Otherwise, you might like Harvest Moon more, but I hear Tree of Tranquility is pretty bad as far as Harvest Moon games go.

Tales of Symphonia gets a lot of love on this site, but I don't think it's up to par with the other two games mentioned - and it doesn't have any farming, so that's another problem.

Oh yea, I certainly has a game cube memory card. I even played the next day for an hour of so and it still didnt save. Thats when I shipped the game back off to Blockbuster.

As for rune factory. What are runeys? and does it get really hard and annoying to use/controll/make them happy? whatever you have to do.

I will be getting Harvest Moon and Rune Factory but have decided to pass on Tales, but then again I haven't played any of these games so I can only give you my future purchases as a reference.

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

Although being an enormous fan of Tales franchise, I have to go with Rune Factory. The game is awesome, extremely deep, addictive... go get it ;)

Edit: Please don' even consider Harvest Moon. Rune Factory is everything that the latest Harvest Moon games should be (but they aren't) and much much more...

Having tried all three, I can wholeheartedly recommend Rune Factory Frontier. It's the most addicting, it's got tons of content (I've played it for 130 hours, and I'm still not bored of it), and it's pretty polished. Since you already like Harvest Moon-type games, Rune Factory's a no-brainer.

Just to reinforce the decision you've already made, my sister actually likes that Farm Town game better than Tree of Tranquility, which she says wasn't as good as whichever one of its Gamecube predecessors I gave her (Magical Melody, I think).

She hasn't played Rune Factory, but judging by the opinions I see on this site and elsewhere, it's the best of those options.

If you're going to play ToS, play the first ToS that's on the Gamecube. ToS: Dawn of the New World is a direct sequel.

I haven't played the other two, so I can't judge those, but ToS should be an amazing game. My friend is extremely addicted to Tales games (especially Symphonia) and he's put hundreds of hours into that game.

There is one thing I'd like to point out, ToS is going to be extremely different from the other two games, at least Harvest Moon. I'm not entirely sure what Rune Factory is like, but Harvest Moon is about as close to ToS as the Legend of Zelda is to Mario.

so you have to play the first tales in order to understand the story?

I'm not sure if it's dire to play the first game in order to understand the second, but I doubt it. It would just make the second one a lot more fun and you'd definitely understand things more.

I haven't played either of them yet, but once summer comes around and my friend comes back home, we're going through both of them together. Should be awesome!

Ive been playing Rune Factory and its really alot of fun. It does have alot o farming as you can grow crops on your field and in dungeons. Im almost on my 3rd year in the game. I got the game on release and I have about 130 hours on the game so it really got me hooked on it.

Get the original Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube.
