Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii Music has sold 2.65 million

luinil said:
I don't think it is because people don't like it. They are free to not like it. But to call it garbage when it is not, that is the issue.

Played it. I like the game. It deserves all those sales. It is more fun with friends and family though.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now I know who to call if I need to know if some game is garbage in my opinion. :P

That screwattack video is the exact thing I'm talking about when I say that Wii Music got some bad reviews. They aren't playing the game, just making fun of it.

Why do you think they are making fun of it? Its bacause its a bad game. The game is literally insulting to anyone who plays it. Even 8 year olds. The game is not good, and the reviews prove that. I've played the game and its pure garbage, and i am pretty open to most games.

You fail to realise that so called "Majority" might have different taste then those who actually enjoy this title. Your belief that the game is garbage means absolutely nothing... same with what was written about the game by "journalists" from gaming media, because reviews prove nothing. They wont prevent people from having fun (and thats what gaming is about)

For someone that aparently remembers the golden Era of gaming you should really be more mature and  open minded.

I keep wanting to post a big rebuttal, but then I realize it's pointless to argue against the "Wii Music sucks" crowd.

I've played the game. I know the depth of the gameplay. I know how hard it is to make something creative that sounds good. If you want to tell me my experience is wrong, go right ahead. I'm sure you're all experts on the subject.

They didn't make fun of it because it's a bad game. They made fun of it because they didn't understand it. They didn't for a second look at the game and tried to understand, they just waved their arms around. Actually, from the way they played, they could never truly understand whether or not it's a bad game.

It's kinda like picking up a violin, rapidly drawing the bow back and forth making horrible screeching noises, and then throw the instrument away in disgust and proclaiming it to be a bad instrument.

What I dislike is that no type of "hardcore" game ever gets the same treatment. Noone ever complains about the violence in God of War or Grand Theft Auto, the difficulty of shooter games or the fact that Guitar Hero has you playing a plastic guitar and not the real thing.

People don't hate Wii Music becouse it doesn't involve killing or becouse it's on Wii.

Do you see people calling Little King Story, Zeldas, Metroid, Muramasa, Okami , Fire Emblem as crap ? You don't becouse those are quality Wii games.

Wii Music is not one of them.

Which seriously pisses me off when title like this outsell them.

Did you reply to the wrong post? I clearly stated my comment about "only liking games involving killing" was sarcastic and at no point have I ever said anything about games specifically on the Wii (though I will admit most of the complaining I see is for games on the Wii).

My entire point is that review sites and most of the people on this site are not the target demographic of many of these games. When the next Hannah Montana games goes off and sellings 100 million copies (hyperbole for those that are going to miss it), it doesn't matter that it fails to meet the standards of Killzone and Gears. All the reviews will have panned it and said the game is rubbish, but the developer has absolutely nailed the target demographic, and obviously has got everything right for them. If the developer has done their research and is delivering to their market, why is it disappointing that the game is successful?

This would be like complaining how McDonalds outsells fancy resturants or Toyota sells more than Ferrari. While the companies are in the same market, they aren't competing for the same audience, so the complaint doesn't make sense.

Wii music certainly isn't a flop. Didn't meet expectation but it did well enough.

Wii music is a game for kids and the hardcore. Kids like it because it is a fun noise maker. The hardcore like it because it is a nice little music studio that doesn't cost hundreds of dollars. Some of the creative pieces that people have been able to do are really good and must have taken a lot of skill (maybe even a little bit of understanding of music theory).

I think the game should get a pricecut. I am still looking forward to purchasing it though. I think with a little practice I could make a super awesome rock version of the mario theme.

I hope they make a wii music 2 with a better song selection and a create your own music mode.
