Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii Music has sold 2.65 million

Some points to state before making a comment:

a)I've never played this game, nor am I interested in it.
b)I own a Wii (well technically my son does but I have access to it :P )

Now onto my POV:

I've read and understand both sides of the argument, but let's look at it from a different perspective:

Nintendo has had a history of producing shovelware (mario party comes to mind) and a history of making great games (Zelda, Metroid), and I can't happen but stop to think that while producing titles that many self described hard core gamers love, they can't all be gems.

As a company Nintendo needs to make money, so they look at something like Guitar hero/rock band and say : "hey we can cash in on this!" so, they go and make a music game where they basically can just slap something they already have developed (miis, motion control) and add music to it, 2.65 million sales later : $$$$$

All that $$$$$ can go a long way towards developing another gem, which will make the hard core gamers happy again. Or it could go towards refining the basic formula for Wii music 2 and make them all angry again.

In the end, you can't please all the people all the time, but remember this: Nobody is forcing you to buy the game.

I think the definition of shovelware is moving farther and farther from its actual meaning when people start claiming that Mario Party is an example (hint: it's not).

Well, in my opinion it is, but opinions are not facts, so I agree to disagree with you. The reason why I used it as an example is because it was the first game developed by Nintendo which is basically the same after umpteenth iterations,(although that could be said for a lot of games as well..oh boy ) and which takes a considerable less amount of resources into developing than say... Super Mario Galaxy (remember we are sticking to Nintendo here)

In the end, take my reference of Mario Party as shovelware and replace the words Mario Party with a Nintendo developed game that would fit the criteria in your eyes and the whole body of my post will still have the same point.

Mario Party is not developed by Nintendo, it's developed by Hudson.

Shovelware is not opinion based, it's based on factual data...if it were opinion based the word would have no meaning.

Actual shovelware would be a game like Ninjabread Man. The game has almost no content, the mechanics barely work and its been tossed around from platform to platform with little regard to anything. Not only that but it is the framework for abou 2-3 other games that are literally reskins in new packages farted out by a developer known for producing only shovelware.

I cannot think of a single game Nintendo has developed that I've played that's even comparable to that.

Not suprised at all, good entertaining and fun piece of software does sell, especially made by Nintendo.

It's a very hardcore title without such broad appeal to casual players like Halo, Mario or GT but it sold well.

I'll not quote further, all those quotes within quotes hurt my eyes.

As I have not played Ninjabread man (and from your description I am not likely to) I will take your word for it.

I was wrong then about Mario Party being developed by Nintendo. As I do not like to spin things I will state that my choice of it as a shovelware example was wrong.

You win one free internetz.

When a game company puts the best producer in the world on making a game, and that game takes 3 years to develop (despite being built on already developed things like Mii's and motion control), I would hardly call that 'shovelware' or 'cash-in'. When that same game is completely unique in what it does, the terms seems to fit even less.

Wii Music has some problems, laggy controls and bad sound-quality being the two paramount ones. But as you say, you cannot make gems all the time.

@ NES
That screwattack video is the exact thing I'm talking about when I say that Wii Music got some bad reviews. They aren't playing the game, just making fun of it.

Why do you think they are making fun of it? Its bacause its a bad game. The game is literally insulting to anyone who plays it. Even 8 year olds. The game is not good, and the reviews prove that. I've played the game and its pure garbage, and i am pretty open to most games.

Why some people are so butthurt because other people don't like this game? :(

I don't think it is because people don't like it. They are free to not like it. But to call it garbage when it is not, that is the issue.

Played it. I like the game. It deserves all those sales. It is more fun with friends and family though.
