Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda Wii better have great music.

Yeah, it's time for some orchestral music in the Zelda universe. Twilight Princess' soundtrack sound quality was a bit iffy due to its use of MIDI.

For example, here's Midna's lament in Twilight Princess (MIDI):

And here it again, but as part of Brawl's soundtrack (Orchestral):

I dunno, I don't really know much about MIDI, so maybe it's just the quality of the recorded video on youtube. All I know is that the use of MIDI was one of the complaints in many TP reviews.

Both of those are exactly the same - it's just that the second one is a MUCH better recording!  They're both MIDI.

It better be ALL MIDI!

It will be.  It's all about interactive music over at EAD.

However, they pioneered a new technique in Super Mario Galaxy where you can segue between MIDI and pre-recorded music seamlessly.  It was a technical achievement that I don't think got the recognition it deserved.  So I definitely expect this technique to be used for the next Wii Zelda title.

Song of Healing (Majora's Mask)

Everything from Wind Waker

I am trying hard to remember the song of healing now.... it was one of those with 3 repeated notes wasn't it?... but I can't bring it to mind.

I do vaguely remember the chillingly sad sounds made around the bit that you learn the 5th of the coloured songs (purple note on the menu screen) the one that calls the 4 giants.

Oh and off topic, but while I am here.... which idiot designed the Goron maze thing in the final levels.... that was stupidly difficult... so much so that when I died in the battle against the mask and had to do it again I didn't bother getting the fierce deity mask again. (which made the final battle harder, so I almost died again)... and there is no way I am even attempting to try for the heart piece in there.

Yep, The full song:

And the song you're referring to is the Oath to Order.

I always loved MM's soundtrack many of the tunes stood out to me from the rest of the Zelda series, in a good way. The songs always helped capture a mood of a certain moment in the game, like the final day and calling of the giants. Don't forget Majora's incarnation, that battle was crazy, lol. :P

^ That's the piano arrangement played when Darmani and Mikau die.

There are two other arrangements of that song:

"Mask House Theme" - which is played only ONCE in the whole entire game, when you fail to bring the mask back to the salesman on the first 3 day set. He picks Link up and starts shaking the shit out of him. This version of the song plays in the background.

"Clock Tower" - the choral version of the same song you posted in the Youtube video played inside the Clocktower.

All three are awesome.  The Song of Healing is just a great song period.

I think I'm one of maybe 20 people who played TP that liked this track.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Haha, I still think this is the best boss music a Zelda game could ever have. Simply epic!

This and the main overworld theme are two of the most memorable songs from TP... And I guess that confirms what the OP (and other people here) said. o_O

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

I love this song!  Check out the soundscape version over at Z.R.E.O here.

Yeah, that song is truly epic.  I still don't think it beats "Ganon, The Last Battle" from Ocarina of Time though.

Check out this version arranged by MOKA over in Japan.  The brass just puts this over the top for me.  Too bad the sound quality is terrible, but I think you'll feel it nontheless!

It gets really good at 2:30.  This was a pretty solid album too - came out a full year after the game.

Well... that totally sounds like a song from Radiant Silvergun. o_O

To embed, just post the whole code in the quick reply box and post, or simply post like you normally would, then edit and post again.

I remember every song from the original Zelda, because there were four of them.

There were more than that!

Well, there was the Title Screen Song, the Overworld Song, The Dungeon Song, and the Game Over Song. I can't remember any others, can you?

I think you're right about Koji Kondo. It's the same deal with New Super Mario Bros., the music isn't bad but it doesn't have the charm and lasting abilityi of the older games.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy
