Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony pick up Ghostbusters game

And just like that the whole "Sony doesn't pay for exclusives" defence dies.

But lets get a few things straight. Columbia own the Ghostbusters franchise not Sony. Sony bought Columbia in 1989. 5 years after the 1st film was made.
Sony had nothing to do with Ghostbusters at all. They purchased the company who owns the license to it. They agreed to sell Zen Studios a license to create a game based on the franchise. With that comes no exclusivity deal at all to the parent company. As far as they are concerned they have been paid money for use of the license and have zero influence over what it is used for.
Roll on to today and Sony have had to pay cash to Atari to effectivley make it timed exclusive to the PS3.

So pretty much Sony have had to pay money to have exclusivity to a franchise from a company of which they own. Is there no wonder why Sony are getting battered financially if they make decisions like that?

Also it must be mentioned this only effects europe so it all seems rather stupid to me. Seems like a desperation move to me. I am a huge Ghostbusters fan. Even have a pre-order for the Blu-Ray version with the free ecto 1 key-ring. But the game looks shit, it was dropped by publishers for a reason so i expect it to bomb. Which again will just make Sony look even more stupid if that happen's.

lol, i'm speechless. i guess even 5y old kids can manage one of the biggest corporation better than its Bosses.

I thought I had read that this was limited to Europe only.

sony is only having a time-exclusive in PAL regions.... what is the point of that.. everywhere else getting it though.

^^dunno....maybe the same reasone why ff13 is only comming in US/EU for 360 but not japan where the FF fanbase mostly are.

"When contacted by GameSpot, Atari confirmed that the Wii, Xbox 360, and DS versions would be coming "later in the year" but did not offer further details."

Sony Will Publish Ghostbusters Game in Europe

* By Chris Kohler

Sony Computer Entertainment will publish Atari’s upcoming Ghostbusters videogames in Europe, delaying the Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS versions, Atari said Wednesday.

On June 19, Sony will publish the game for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 in Europe and other PAL territories. A PSP version will follow in the fall.

Atari said that its North American launch plans will not change: The games will be released on 360, PS3, PS2, DS, PC, and Wii here on June 16, alongside the release of the classic film on Blu-ray.

In 2008, Ghostbusters developer Terminal Reality told MTV that PlayStation 3 was the lead development platform for the next-gen game.

Earlier that year, Sony’s head of software development Phil Harrison left the company to head up Atari.

Atari did not say whether the other versions of the game would eventually be released in Europe. (Update: Atari told Wired.com that it will publish the non-Sony SKUs in Europe in the fall.)

--------------------

Basically, this appears to be for Sony to help out Phil Harrison while at the same time to strengthen the PS3 in its strongest region (especially against the Xbox 360).

It is just PAL regions and just a few months.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Ugh, people can't read.
Terminal Reality is doing the HD version
Red Fly Studios is doing the Wii version. http://wii.ign.com/articles/960/960424p1.html

This news only affects the Terminal Reality version. Thus the Wii version will go on scheduled as planned.

The Terminal Reality version is PS3/360/PC.  PS3 is becoming a timed exclusive, so 360 and PC get delayed.

The Red Fly Studios version is Wii/PS2.  PS2 is becoming a timed exclusive, so Wii is getting delayed for no reason.

So it's affecting both versions.

I just slept on this, and woke up even madder.  I don't know what's stupider, doing this in 1 territory or doing it in all territories.  I don't see how this can benefit Sony.

So I can still get this in a month? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUSTIN' MAKES ME FEEL GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I'm still pissed on behalf of my Wii60 ghostbustin' brethren in PAL regions. Total dick move. But I'm dismantling my doomsday device.)
