Forums - General Discussion - Does National Health Care Really Work?

Here's a situation I imagine is all too common. A very poor isolated community, where no-one has money, has the army come and offer jobs to the people of the town. A few people decide to join up seeing it as a way to feed their families as it is easier than getting a job in the poor town. They go to Iraq and get involved in conflicts, many of them come back with serious injuries that require attention. without Government grants for healthcare or national healthcare who would they turn to? Because no-one else they know has little money anyway, not enough to spare.

Health care for injuries or problems that occurred in a foreign war are paid for by the government as part of the benefits of being a soldier. Of course I heard rumors that the current US Administration wanted to dump the health care of injured vets from the public to the private sector, meaning just what you suggested...

Thankyou, that's what I wanted to read. It would be a shame if the government dropped it because these people would suffer their whole lives for protecting their country.

And I have no problem with the government doing that, after all they are fighting for the country and should be provided for in some areas.

I agree, it would be a big mistake if soldiers did not get support for sacrifing their health for the nation, let's hope that never happens

Canada proves it works

There is a massive trade off represented by the Canadian healthcare system ...

While more people are covered in the Canadian system a lot of people have no ability to get a GP; there are long waiting lists for Specialists, diagnostic tests, surgeries, and emergency care; and costs are still escalating at an unsustainable pace, and at the current rate it is unlikely that we will be able to afford healthcare within 10 (or so) years.

Many parts of the excalating cost and bleak outlook are all a result of the US and the effect they have on Canada's available doctors and nurses.

But let me guess... not a single positive aspect of Canada' medical capabilities can be attributed to the US?

This seems to be a growing trends. When something bad happens, it always seems to become the US's fault, yet the US never gets credit for making any aspect of the world better.

It reminds me of religion. Christianity has the Devil to blame all the bad stuff on, and even when the bad stuff causes a good outcome, he never gets credit. Like for example, if the devil caused a plain to crash and 100 people die, and one of those people was a man who repeatedly raped his 10 year old daughter, god gets the credit for saving her.

Same thing here. The world demonizes the US. We get blamed for so much that's wrong with the world, and seldom get any positive credit.

canadas medical system would be able to better support its population if they didnt have the US right next door offering piles of money to anyone willing to leave here and go work there. there is no mindless anti-americanism in that...
