Forums - Gaming Discussion - PSP 2 is announced (with pics)

Death2009 said: It's about games, not media delivery. And what is apple doing?
Nothing at the moment. But with ipods playing games, the iphone being more like a portable computer, and the sheer marketing power and consumer appeal of apple, they could do whatever they wanted, and people would buy it. It wouldn't be too unreasonable for them to bring out a handheld gaming device within the next few years.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Actually I doubt 8gb of memory would cost 100-150$ Why? First you can buy 2, 4gb Memory Stick Pro Duo, for under 125$. I doubt they cost more than 75$ to make... (at that size) I dont see why they couldnt use a few sizes bigger... You can buy a 1gb CF card for 8$. here is a 8gb SD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820211148 for 50$. Second. Becuase of the center of gravity on the PSP, a touch screen would be nicer. (I'm sorry but due to the flippy flappy top on the DS, I find it hard to find a confy way to hold it to use the touch screen. (it tends to be back heavy. I was just holding my PSP in my hand, with my left hand square center on the back, and it was balanced MUCH better for stylus use than a DS. I am firmly against a PSP2 for 2 reasons. 1. I just bought one. 2. I will be very angry. 3. I wont be buying the new one. (so basically I will leave the handheld market) 4. The PSP is finally starting to get some momentum... to throw that away, will be like saying. "We screwed up, and the PSP wasnt what we wanted." 5. If it has more power than the PSP, it will need a bigger battery. 6. If it needs a bigger battery, it needs a bigger case. 7. It would probibally need a fan, as the PSP can get kinda hot. 8. Because of the fan it would need a bigger battery. 9. Because it is so much bigger and filled with aluminum heat sinks... it will kinda be heavy. 10. While it is now so big, it no-longer fits in your pocket... or in your hands. 11. Since it is now a desktop item... might as well strap a 5inch 720p screen up to a PS3 and put a car battery in a back-pack, and put a inverter in there as well to power it all. In all seriousness. The PSP is fine the way it is. The thumb-stick could move a little, and the screen could have a little better refresh rate. But in all seriousness... The touchscreen would work. I dont like that idea tho. It couldnt have quite as hard a screen protector. The 8gb internal memory... not a problem at all. I dont see where you see that as a problem. I can see a new hardware revision. But I cant see a new standard. Seriously, if you double the PSP's power... you half it's battery life... add double the battery... factor in added heat. The PSP now weighs 2x as much. It's already heavy. (although it's about as heavy as a DS... wich amuses me. Another thing. DS and DSL both weigh about the same. One is just fractionally smaller than the other, and slighly lighter. My old DS, is ALMOST the exact same size as the PSP when folded. Everyong thinks the PSP is big. Ha~

I fly this flag in victory!

does the current psp have fan or need one? I won't buy it if the system will just melt on me in a year.

Well, here it is - CONFIRMATION FROM SONY THAT THE REDESIGNED PSP IS COMING (year end you would have to say...): http://gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=23465 ...maybe they will FINALLY release GTMobile... So Kwaad - going to buy one?

I think and hope the next psp looks just like this one BUT has a better analog stick and better positioning of it. I hope it has analog triggers like the ones on the ps3 controller, it will probably have a touch screen, maybe 1 gig harddrive, and obviously hardware thats a little better then the ps2. Cool ideas for future portable systems: Multi touch screen, laser projection.

It's apperant from Sony now that they plan on releasing not yet a sequel system, but a psp redesign. I really don't know why. The DS Lite sold well becuase the original DS sucked. it was butt ugly, the backlight was dim, and it was a little to large. Not to mention the DS was a little more affordable making it a reasonable choice for people who already had the initial system. It sounds odd to say it, but I don't think sony's redesign will be successful, simply because they got it right the first time around. Seriously how much smaller can the system get? Maybe a little thinner, perhaps a better analog stick, perhaps longer battery life, perhaps built in memory but I really don't see it adding enough to justify the purchase.

I doubt a redesign will be sucessfull. When Sony releases a PSP lite (and yes, they confírmed= it will cost about 250 Dollars - and that is too much for a system that is not market leader and doesn´t get a lot of games anymore.

a PSP redesign like the one at the top of the thread would be great. Just get rid of the 2nd smaller screen and all that extra plastic around the big screen so that you basically have a widescreen GBA SP. If there's gonna be a 2nd screen, it should be a small one on the outside of the clamshell (like many cell phones) and it should be a touch screen for easier mp3 control. Make the UMD drive slot loading and place it in the area where the buttons are. Then just make it stylish as Sony knows how to do, and I think they'd have a winner. I'm pretty sure I'd buy it because one of my biggest beefs with the current model is that the thing fits in your pocket, but not as comfortably as i'd like.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

It will be a REdesign, something like a DS lite.. you can´t change hardware specs in a redesign.
