Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why is there damage in Forza but not GT?

I always in the past believed it was due to as said, manufactures not wanting their cars being seen as smashed up and well unsafe. maybe they just don't care as much any more or forza didn't use manufactures that did care.

When Forza came out it was not particularly known for its realism and spec driven sim style like GT was.

GT wanted to make damage accurate to the type of car and it's safety system.

Most simulation racers have to pay for the licenses to use the cars. In those paid contracts they are able to secure the ability to damage the cars. Polyphony Digital is given free licenses to use vehicles, including many manufacturers that do not want to see damages on their cars. Forza does not have licenses with those certain cars or car makers either as far as I know. Since GT is being given free licenses(because of the popularity of the series) Polyphony has no bargaining rights to get the manufacturers to agree to the damage. For GT to implement damage, they'll either need to:

1. Cut out the car manufacturers that say no.

2. Bargain them into allowing it, even if it takes money for it to happen.

With strong sales in the car market every car maker seems obsessed with (U.S.A) do you think Turn 10 has enough clout now with 4M sales to get the same kind of bargain that Polyphony does?

Tease.

Even burnout paradise has damage

Wait, GT5P still has no damage? That is weak. I thought they were going to update it to have damage?

EMULATION is the past.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

I always thought of the GT series as the beutiful car art i guess and damage would destroy that

I think i remember hearing it was Ferarri that wouldnt allow damage in GT.

Does Forza have Ferraris in it? Does that mean they paid Ferrari extra to allow damage?

You cant be realistic without damage.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

^you can't be realistic without REALISTIC DAMAGE.

If Polyphony is ever going to include damage, then it has to be just as real as any other aspect of the physics engine. Forza 2 damage is not enough for the realism GT5 is striving for, if that's all they can offer/get the manufacturers to agree upon, then I'd rather have nothing. Not even Grid's damage engine is realistic enough.
