Nintendo finally gives online a push

By playstationgameruk

Now lets not beat around the bush, while the Wii is a great console for playing when you have mates around and it does have some fun titles in the form of Madworld and LOZ:TP, it’s online department is lacking compared with the competition and as a result, the amount of wii owners online is fairly small considering the consoles install base.

Nintendo however now wants this to change it seems and are promoting online play on the wii to try and get more people online. The Campaign is known as Wii. Get It Online… and above you can see one of the adverts currently avaible online. (for those interested the screenshot comes from the Yahoo UK website). The advert links to this website which explains how to get online and why you should. A video is also provided to help with this.

I personally think is a great move by Nintendo, I have access to a Wii and i have often found a lot of games in which the servers are dead with only a handful of people to play brawl on. Hopefully this will encourge more people to sign up online and elminate one of the problems i have with Nintendo Wii’s online capabilities.

...I am at a loss of words...I know somewhat about Nintendo showcasing the aspects of online to the new gamers...But it comes as a shock that a Playstation-centered website would show the news...and what is more shocking is that...it isn't such a bad article...is this a sign of more acceptance of other consoles? Discuss.

A playstation centered website made an article out of a Yahoo advertisement for Nitnendo.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Nice to see a bit of unbiased journalism. Just because someone works for a magazine for one company, it doesn't mean they shouldn't respect another company.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Oh right! ... why?

in all honesty is sony or microsoft wanted to win over the other they would only have to befriends the wii

get on nintendos good side and try to get people to not only by a wii...but also the 360 or ps3

and vice verse get nintendo to be buddies with them

There's one very simple thing Nintendo could do to get people online...

...simply give away a wiiware game for free..and advertise the hell out of the promotion.

Tell your average consumer to "connect your wii online and claim your free game"..and there would be a flood of new connections.

Nintendo is doing that right now with the DSi. If it does extremely well, they could do something similar with the Wii, but I have a feeling that they aren't that desperate for people to connect online with the Wii.

I don't know. With a streaming video service just released in Japan, and with other online services already in place and who knows what else coming down the pipe, I think Nintendo has ample incentive to try to get more of the Wii userbase to hook their Wiis into the interwebs.

They might not be desperate, but they might also stand to gain more than they lose through such a promotion.
