Oh please, Red Steel is the "Lair" of the wii, but i guess anything related to the wii is considered "AAA" to its fans so whatever.

"- Ubisoft discussing the lack of multiplayer: “We would love to create a multiplayer engine, but not right now. It’s single player because we want to really focus on the core mechanic and as much as we all want to kill each other with swords, it’s not going to happen this time."

In short, they apparently don't want to release an unpolished version like last time.

That doesn't strike me as the Ubisoft I know. The cynic in me is that they want the game to be a commercial failure so that they can be justified in saying mature games don't sell on Wii so they will stick to Rayman, Petz and Babby Sittaz.

This is highly unlikely, since they allegedly rebooted the entire game and moved it to a different team. Ubisfoft wants this game to be successful: shoot, this game may end up being their second most expensive Wii game to produce. Now, did they read the market correctly? My instincts say "no," and that this game will do good-but-not-great (less than the original). But any such failure is not one that was deliberately created.

And on a personal note, I have to say I'm digging the game more than before, save for the lack of multi-player. I'm still not sure how the game's going to control (FPS controls until you close in, then switch to mellee? That can get messy real quick...) but I'm still looking forward to it.

Red Steel was heralded by some as a system savior yet wound up flopping commercially and nearly shuttering its developer? The More You Know!

And the jacket is pretty b****ing, yes.

Red Steel 2 - more details reveal some controls, non-linear gameplay, and explanation for lack of multiplayer:
- some aspect of leveling up your character
- gun and sword combos
- “RS2 is tightly focused on intensely physical first person sword fighting, with gunplay a secondary option”
- hold Z to lock onto enemy
- hold down C and swing to block, vertical and horizontal blocks
- switch lock-on at any time
- screen prompts you if you’re being attacked from behind. Press A to quick-turn in this situation
- many enemies wear bulletproof armor
- not open world
- not a linear game, multiple paths to take
- several hub-worlds
- side quests
- collectibles
- return to old areas with new powers and abilities
-”non-combat use of MotionPlus wont be limited to opening doors”
- boss fights
- production began last summer
- Ubisoft discussing the lack of multiplayer: “We would love to create a multiplayer engine, but not right now. It’s single player because we want to really focus on the core mechanic and as much as we all want to kill each other with swords, it’s not going to happen this time.
- Ubisoft on releasing a multiplayer mode through DLC: “That would be cool. The world has changed, and we can do that sort of thing. I certainly think that would be cool. I’d buy it. But we need to be careful bringing out something that people think should be in the main game.”

Which is rather perplexing coming from Ubisoft. They tend to make their games with a minimal effort but maximum mainstream appeal to generate high sales, but everything about this game seems niche. No multiplayer, Sci-Fi western, lesser emphisis on gunplay and cel-shaded graphics...it's like thier asking for disappointing sales. So either they're setting this game up to flop so they can justifiy putting out more of their shovelware, or they actually care about the quality of the game and don't care about sales...which would be the first time they've done this since BGaE.

Or they don't think those actually lead to lower sales, which seems to be something a lot of gamers still think. There is no magic formula for what leads to better or worse sales.

Of course nothing is for sure, but outside of Wind Waker has any console cell-shaded game sold well? (I would honestly like to know) The game could in theory sell of the name of it's predesessor but you would think that Ubi would play it safe.

Perhaps they believe in their product? No company would waste money making something in order for it to not sell. It just isn't logical. This is the second thread I have seen that has vomited this insane conspiracy idea. It's as if some of the gamers on forums think that companies actually have to prove something to them, justify themselves or whatever. Sdly they only need answer to shareholders.

Yes.

www.spacemag.org - contribute your stuff... satire, comics, ideas, debate, stupidy stupid etc.

I like a lot the new art style of the game, but I think the scenes looks empty, and tottaly agree with only use WM+, because the gameplay of the first was an epic fail, or maybe an enormous fake? only watch the comercials and play the game after was dissapointing, but still being a good game, now will be perfect.

"but outside of Wind Waker has any console cell-shaded game sold well"

Do some damn research. Just off the top of my head, I have Tales of Symphonia, Dragon Quest VIII, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, and No More Heroes.
