Forums - Sony Discussion - Square Enix merger didn't help the gaming industry

Yeah, they went downhill ever since they merged with Enix! SquareSoft were producing high quality games non-stop in their prime.
Hopefully, Final Fantasy XIII will proves us wrong.

I never played an Enix game, but weren't they making quality games as well? Your post makes it sound like it's Enix's fault.

Perhaps, though its not like any Japanese developers/publishers have really shined this gen so its hard not to say its just following a trend.

Tease.

I kinda blame them. lol
Seriously though, you can't compare the games SquareSoft produced with the games SquareEnix produced. Yes, SquareEnix did produce good games, but still...

Why were you expecting the merger to help the game industry? We're they supposed to lend out game making tips or something and then went back on their word?

If all the games were multiplat, it would have helped.

Keeping the JPRG games on a platform, what sells crap in Japan... was a mistake.

How exactly was that a result of the merger? The merger happed early last generation, and SE games were almost entirely single platform still and continued to be until this generation started, when a select few titles(under 10%, maybe under 5%) ended up single patform on an underperforming console in Japan.

I dunno about everyone else but this Merger and the subsequent like of ps3 games was a blessing in disguise for me, because normally when it came to RPGs I was Square exclusive but now I'm discovering RPGs that don't have Final or Fantasy in the title. Persona 4 was a blast, I actually liked Jeanne D'Arc, now I just need to find back catalogs for ps2 and raid them.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

I misread it all. My bad =/

I'd kinda agree with the OP. After the merge Square just wasnt the same. Not saying its Enix fault, but maybe the merge lead them to a different direction then what they had before? I still enjoyed a few good Square-Enix games, but nothing of that magnitude of how it was with PS1. But ill patiently wait and see what FFXIII & FFvXIII will bring.
