Its an interesting thread -> Cell vs GPGPU vs LRB, quite technical but for those whom are interested.

Well, can't u summarize it in laymans terms? No, I'm not gonna ask for such a task from u.

$400 and you kill AMD.. $600+ and you've pretty much killed yourself, nvidia.

???

I wouldnt underestimate ATI's upcoming R800.

ofcourse not, im a huge AMD person. My point was if they overprice this new entry theyr pretty much gonna fuck themselves... AMD has been playing the price card very well for sometime now.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

Yup, unfortunately AMD/ATi have also been losign money in general, to the point of being nigh on bankrupt.

Cell is "awesome"

GPGPU is "Awesome"

LRB is "awesome"

Basically, no one can decide and as there are no truly useful programs out for people to play with aside from folding programs (Which are up to 100x quicker using GPGPU code) and some video transcoding, no oen will know until Larrabee is released and more GPU based programs appear.

Kinda old article, but its stayed true until recently with the Phenom 2s and the 4xxx series GPUs.

More recent article about it.

Personally even though i prefer Intel i'd hate AMD to die because then it's be the P3, P4 era all over again, over-priced underpowered balls.

ouch AMD is hurting like Sony

Lol, don't believe rumoured specs you see on the internet this early. Same goes for R800.

I'll just say that if both rumours are true then the R800 will totally own GT300 since GT300 = 2x the speed of GT200b and RV870 = 1.5x speed of RV670 ... but no one's mentioned an Nvidia X2 part so 2xRV870 > GT300. Two GT300s will be practically impossible as GT200b is already big and hot and yet the 40nm process* doesn't give good scaling or TDP gains so the GT300 will be the biggest and hottest graphics chip ever made by itself.

*Based on the only existing TSMC 40nm product, the 4770, which achieved 1.5x scaling in dize size and 0.8x scaling in TDP. So GT300 would be an insane 626mm^2 die size and 300W TDP. I'd like to see Nvidia do an X2 part with that. Compared to an estimated 256mm^2 and 192W TDP for RV870.

That's exactly what I was thinking, though we've been surprised enough times in this industry. It's entirely possible for GT300 to be like 2.5 x faster seeing how it's a new architecture and all. I hope not though, nvidia really needs a good kick in the balls. Being dominated by ATI for a while would be good for their innovation.

Well, they were. From June to January AMD had the best value at almost all price points. You know what happened? AMD and Nvidia's market share stayed the same at 30% and 20% respectively. Because of ignorant consumers who don't check the PC specs before they buy, and Nvidia's superior marketing.
