Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ninteno Wii's future....Not so bright

Time will tell.

Ok, I'll ask you the same questions I asked GranTurismo  "What would have to happen in order to demonstrate to you that the Wii is hear to stay?" or similarly "What would have to happen in order to demonstrate to you that the PS3 is in trouble?"

Around the Network

I think there have been about 300 threads on this forum that have declared this same idea. It has been the mantra since before the Wii launched. Nothing has changed, except that the prophecies of wiidoom have failed to materialize.

Gran Turismo's thread adds nothing to the table that hasn't been discussed ad nauseum. The only thing different this time is that this post derives from Fanboy Turismo, a well known damage control specialist.

We could all spend all night (or day or morning, wherever you are) discounting this thread, but ultimately there isn't a real reason to. It's been done. We're moving into the holidays and the wind is , for better or worse, at Nintendo's back. This might be a good thread to bring back in March '08, but I'm sure in the meantime 300 more will be created just like it.

Hmmm...  I guess you didn't take note that the Wii now has the largest game library this gen..?  I've seen the huge list of games just for the end of this year, at first glance you might not think there is many games that look good.  The list of bad games is huge, but once you widdle down the list to just good games... you realize that damn... that list is still pretty damn big.  My wallet will hurt....

Well according to Gran Tursimo, he expects the Wii to sell 95 million Wii's and then drop down to about 2.5 million Wii's a year after that...  So if we go by Gran Turismo as an example we'll see these threads until the Wii has sold 95 million+ units and possibly even longer then that.... ;)

I also agree with the post above. I dont think it will slow down anytime soon. I bought the wii ... because I wanted a new system minus the high cost 360 n ps3 have. Most people I know also bought it for the similar reasons. I wouldnt really say expanding the market though. I think the wii caters to the old school gamers who gave up on systems due to complicated controls and high prices. The wii's so user friendly and affordable, its nostalgic ...... reminds me of when i purchased nes years ago.

Exactly, Nintendo sales are dissapearing, Sony's sales have only been increasing, I mean at this rate the Wii will only be selling twice the number the PS3s is in a year or so.

^ WHAT!?!?!? Wii sales haven't been decreasing!!!

I do agree that gamecube owners are the majority of gamers from last gen to make the switch to Wii. But Wii sales aren't going to slow down once all these GC owners have made the switch. The Wii is much more interesting than Gamecube and appeals to many more people. Word of mouth and high praise from the media is a helping factor. The Wii is a huge phenomenon that is reaching beyond Gamecube owners.

Agreed its a nice system and word of mouth is whats keeping it still. I went to the YMCA here in Delaware today and they have Wii sitting in the gym and some guys and gals where playing Wii Sports. Wow its really making think I should get a Wii now after seeing how Nintendo is getting non-gamers into the mix.

Eventually, Nintendo sales would have to decline, as it's happening in Japan. You can't expect it to be sold out forever. Sony sales are increasing cause they have nowhere to go but up. Yet the Wii is still outselling the PS3 by a large margin. Come this holiday season, the margin would be even bigger.
