It could happen. But the current charts have the 360 20k more than the PS3, so not quite.

Except the PS3 would have to increase its sales rate by 60% to match what the Xbox 360 did last year. (10% to get it on track with last year and then 50% to get to to where the 360 was)

360 fans are in the same position as PS3 fans were in last year. It feels like de ja vu'. The final four months will be the most critical in regards to the console sales war for 2009 when price cuts and the majority of games both exclusive and multi-platform blockbusters are released before Xmas. Post E3 2009 will be exciting times ahead and I believe PS3 will widen its gap over XBox 360 in same point in time sales from launch and PS3 should claw back the 360s sales lead when the PS3 price cut takes effect around September 2009.

There are two sales comparisons between PS3 and XBox 360:
1. Same point in time from launch of the two consoles - PS3 ahead by 3.5 million over XBox 360 after first 2.5 years.
2. Head to head sales which takes into account the total sales of both consoles have sold on the market and XBox 360 unfortunately leads the PS3 by around 8 million consoles but the XBox 360 is a year older than PS3 and the 360 is half the price of PS3.

Gosh I hate to post in a thread like this, especially so late in its life, but really? Do people even understand the concept of mathematics?

The facts are as follows:

1) The PS3 outsold the 360 IF you align the launches.

2) Point 1 is made irrelevant by the fact that the 360 is STILL outselling the PS3. The gap was ~5 million, now it's ~8 million.

3) The only thing that will make the PS3 outsell the 360 is if Oprah goes on one of her charitable rampages and buys everyone in America a PS3. (Oprah SMASH!!)

4) Fighting for second place is ALSO irrelevant because nobody ever remembers who was number two. (*Insert some smart ass mentioning some former number two in something completely unrelated here*)

However, if people really love something that much, why should I deprive them of the opportunity to delude themselves?

Reality is reality and no matter which way you want to spin it, same point in time PS3 IS winning! Sorry to break it to you but open your eyes. The only time that this will not be true is when the PS3 is NOT ahead of the xbox, same point in time...

If that happens then you can have a same point in time victory celebration...

Doing aligned launch comparisons just make sony fanboys look VERY VERY desperate, overall sales the 360 is beating the PS3 by 8 million units with no signs of the PS3 catching up anytime soon, the gap will be 9 million in a few months, then 10 million then getting into the christmas season it will leave the PS3 in the dust just like every christmas,

And remember, PS3 is DOWN year on year, that is bad no matter how you try and spin it when the 360 is UP year on year, 360 hasn't just gained a bit, it's gained a LOT while PS3 fell in the same time frame specially in Europe and the U.S.
