Your kidding yourself if you think that Sony will drop $100 at E3 and also that MS wont respond to a price reduction themselves (Especially since MS has already stated they will).

Lets assume Sony does make a price cut next month.  Lets also assume last 8 weeks of the year Sony jumps to 5,000,000 in sales from last years 2,800,000.

That means starting in June the PS3 would need to sell about 170,000 per week through the big last 8 weeks of the year.

PS3 is 3.5 million consoles ahead of XBox 360 after 2.5 years when we align the two consoles from their launches. I have proven the PS3 is actually beating the XBox 360 in console sales. PS3 is selling around 20% more console sales and should sell the X360s 5 year sales ltd in 4 years of PS3 selling on the market.
I have seen people from both sides of PS3 and 360 arguing for and against me in this thread. The sales figures speak for themselves. PS3 sold 22.15 million consoles in 2.5 years. XBox 360 only managed to sell 18.65 million consoles in the 2.5 year time frame.

So I go take that same point in time and I look to the closest matching data points on Vgchartz which is 2nd May 2009. Wow, the Xbox 360 is 8 Million ahead of the PS3.

The sales figures DO speak for themselves, but you are refusing to acknowledge what they are saying. PS3 sales were obviously more front-loaded than 360 sales. Why? Many people waited for the PS3 to come out, before deciding on a next gen system. 260 sold 5 million units the first year. A paltry number. 360 then began trending up and up. Meanwhile, PS3, after its entry price was reduced $200 gained some momentum for a while, and is now at a low point. Xbox 360 is not only selling PS3 week over week, and gaining momentum, it's doing it later in its lifespan. PS3 is not only behind, but its sales are slowing down. Now, yet another price cut could give the PS3 the momentum it needs to compete, but currently there's nothing to suggest the PS3 will sell more than 360 lifetime.

You do bring up an excellent point about the PS3 sales having a more front loaded sales record.  Although you completely fail to acknowledge that the 360 might be seeing it's peak system sales this year.  It's hit the 200$ price point.  The chances of it surpassing this years total sales are slim. 

The PS3 still has the opportunity to hit the $300 / $200 price points which should very easily provide a boost in sales to the countless millions of gamers who still haven't jumped into the next generation yet.   Addtitionally,  the PS3 will continue to garner sales for a longer period of time if it's sold as nothing more than a Blu-Ray player.

Will it catch up or surpass the 360?  Who knows.  One thing is for sure,  the 360 and PS3 are tracking very comparably and in my eyes the biggest difference in sales is price and price alone.

Maybe it's the exact time to lock this thread. I'm sure that can happen at the same point in time.

Wrong. You have to think of it like a time trial. It doesn't matter who started first, the final time is what matters. To date, the PS3 has better sales in the same amount of time on the market. Do you really think the 360 will stay on the market longer than the PS3? Extremely unlikely.
