Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Am I the only person who respects Nintendo as a dev but not a console maker

Nintendo have been very whaky lately with the Wii, and they screw themselves all the time, the worst example is working with Sony which eventually @&%!ed them bad. If they were just developers imagine the diferences...

what do you think, whatwould it have been like if they never made a console, howabout if they decide to quit making them?

You are a couple of years too late...

Explanation of sig:

I am a Pakistani.....my name is Dan....how hard is that? (Don't ask about the 101...apparantely there are more of me out there....)

yeah pretty much, your the only person

You should be beaten, burned to ashes then someone should throw your ashes from a plane

I do respect them as a console maker, but i do see where you're coming from. Nintendo's always played the industry maverick, which tends to be a great help to their software but produces very mixed results with their hardware. Look at the GameCube: solid as a rock (see all those videos about abusing GameCubes where they still run afterwards), but with limited functionality (no DVD when that was the must-have feature, no online infrastructure despite having network ports), or the N64 with the obstinate cartridges, or the Wii with it's friend codes and its many frustrating design decisions

Nintendo is very different, which leads to some bad things sometimes.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

no way. Nintendo always makes the best console they can that is still affordable to the consumer. The GC>PS2, N64>PS1 and so on in terms of overall console power. Nintendo realized they couldn't make an affordable HD console, so they introduced original hardware in the remote.

The same goes for their handhelds. Sure the other handhelds had higher poly count and color, but Nintendo handhelds lasted forever on less batteries and were small. Nintendo makes some of the best hardware out there and you can't really deny it.

Also, the day Nintendo stops making hardware is the day they stop making games. Nintendo will never sell their IP (this was actually a statement by Nintendo).

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

As for networking, I actually prefer the FC system, but they only have 1 downfall. The only problem with FC is that you can't easily add friends. If I could send a friend request rather than both of us having to type in a number it would be so much easier. Also, if all games did what mario kart did where you can swap FC via wii messages then it would eliminate the other problems. With FC I can name myself whatever I want, on the PSN and Live I have to use a name not already taken. So the ability to quickly add people and FC becomes superior.

As for games not being online on Wii, well, only if Nintendo's online support is crappy can you blame them. Honestly I blame the devs for the lack of online in games.

Yes.

Nintendo has been the the leading innovator with consoles.

Her are just a few of the things they've brought into the mainstream:

The D pad
Analog sticks
Rumble
Motion Control
Wireless Controls
Touch controls

And, with help from software like mario and zelda, created 3d as we know it with the N64.

Also their success with the Wii has allowed many 3rd parties to stay afloat due to affordable development costs.

ok ok ok, what I'm trying to say is this:
they're acting very "brave" going against the rest and that screws them sometime other times it's great, Wii is an obvious example.

well I think Mr. Khan helped explain my views well.

either your respect it or not
