^ Right. He has no taste in games! =P

Yeah, you're not one to talk, you didn't finish Suikoden....

And be careful with what you say, I have incriminatory posts of yours stored, you don't want me to bring them up, right?

What? You don't like it when I say orange definitely makes you look sexy?

Fine... :(

It's not that I don't like it. It's just that it feels weird having a tocayo hitting on me. But if you wanna consider me as a sex symbol, go ahead

no it is not, for it's generation it was underrated like everyone else said here. If someone plays it in this day and age for the first time then I can see them saying maybe it's overrated.

I've played the SNES version a short while before it was announced that it would come to the DS. I didn't had it for my old SNES (figures, live in europe) so I played it through an emulator.

I had never before played an JRPG. I was 22 years old and I only heard from Chrono trigger in passing. I hadn't heard or seen anything from the actual game...

And it quickly got propelled to my shortlist of best games ever. The music was what closed the deal from me, aside the griping story and likeable characters. I can only imagine the awesomeness it was in 1995.

it was great for his time.

don't like the game... I prefer FF style of combat. For me it's nostalgic and overated but I respect the fact that a lot of peoples love this game. I think it's a good game but I don't like it...

Absolutely not overrated. That game was wonderful for its time and it still is.

Btw, I hope SE (they own the franchise?) never even thinks of doing a sequel. They would probably mess it up completely, + many of the good people who worked on both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross is now part of Monolith Soft if I have understood things right. Correct me if I'm wrong ;)
And Chrono Cross ended it all sooooooo good!!!

It´s logical that there are people who don´t consider it that awesome, since the minority played it when it came out. But since they like it, it proves it´s a masterpiece and ages well. Even in 2009 most people enjoy it, when many RPGs have further improved CT´s features. Very few have such a good battle system though.

Chrono Trigger as adequately appreciated, and thankfully not obsessed over like other RPG series.

For what it did, its praise it well deserved, as it is still fun to play for both its gameplay and its story. And its rare for an RPG to find a good balance in both of those fields. Chrono Trigger was able to achieve this while still managing to last as a fun and balanced RPG for over 14 years. ANd a pioneering game in the field of JRPGs.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Chrono Trigger ages like a fine wine. If anything it gets more underrated each year, and should be a 12/10 by now.

If I recall CT was some kind of anniversary special game for Square... hence why they managed to snag tori for the art (making it closer to DQ than other square series) and other things...
y'all americans were new to tori in the late ninties, but here in france we had his work since the mid 80ies and god it's awsome to have the art of a game made by your manga god... I think that is one of the reasons for DQ to have kept it's place above FF in Japan...

on subject... CT rocks (but my fav is FF6) and as rubang pointed out, there is no scale for it.
