Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why does everyone love to hate the Wii?

I like my Wii - but I do think the A button should be the B button and the B button should be the A button. It should also play DVD's the useless thing.

But what's to hate about something as cute as the Wii?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I like the Wii a lot, despite it's not the best console for me personally.

IMO it (and the PS2 to some extend) is the best console targeted at young kids. Most of us got introduced to computer games when we were kids.

What if there was no Wii? The PS3 is too expensive and multi-featured, kids usually won't get the most out of all those provided features. Sure there are some great family orientated games like Ratchet and LBP, but not many young kids have a HDTV and internet in their bedroom for example.

The 360 is cheap, but seriously that console is far too sensitive and failure prone for little kids to have to deal with. Lots of games like Halo 3 have limited value without having online and you even have to subscribe for that! (thinking of some little boys, I don't imagine little girls wanting to play Gear of War or Halo) So, IMO not a very kid friendly or kid targeted console as well.

If I would buy a console for my kids (which I don't have yet), it would most likely be a Wii!

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

I think it's mostly because people laughed at Wii when Nintendo showed it off (developers, journalists and fans alike), and said Nintendo were done for and hailed X360 and PS3 as the true innovators ... And then when they were proven dead wrong, very few of them want to admit it, so they try and put the Wii down at any chance they get.

This isn't the case for all people, of course, but yeah, it's the general cause for most haters, I think.

Pretty much. I'm sure there are indeed haters who aren't just elitist fanbrats. After all, if you only love titles like, say, MGS, why would you like the Wii?---those titles generally aren't there. Most of the hate I've seen against the Wii though is because it only sells as a result of its appeal to *~casual~* gamers, as if gaining the majority of the marketshare that way is a form of cheating or something.

I think people hate it because they always imagine that if Nintendo's console going to be #1, it would appeal to hardcore gamers and casual gamers. Well more hardcore gamers than casual gamers.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

Well, there is nothing wrong with the Wii not appealing to certain people.

However, they are going to far when they have to troll whenever the Wii is mentioned.

Because it's the most popular. The obvious answer is indeed the right one, in this case. You wouldn't be seeing any hate if it was in 3rd place.

Being hated on is good. It means you're doing something right.

The gamecube was hated almost as much as the Xbox last gen.

Why do people keep asking this? Consoles breed fanboyism and fanboyism breeds hatred. I personally think that my PS3 is a shiny black gift from the heavens, but tons of people rip on it and that's just the way it is. There are haters for EVERYTHING, and that goes triple in the geeky gaming landscape we all frequent.

In this case, the situation is exacerbated because for the first time in console history, there are actually real differences between two sets of gamers. People who can develop an us-and-them mentality over the minor differences between a SNES and a Genesis are naturally going to lose their rag when presented with the current HD-Wii dichotomy. I'd just like to say that for every poster who slams the Wii, there's a poster who wants to call me a member of the "snobcore" because I dare to enjoy good graphics. But I'll just shrug and go play a game, and so should you.

GREAT MOMENTS IN HUMAN HISTORY

12/9/2008 18:46 Australian CST - !!!I got my first trophy!!! Huzzah!!!

Most core gamers are not "hating" more like a little taken a back at the set up of the wii online. Gamer codes is the worst idea for online period, the lack of a headset to chat it up with your bros when you guys are online (wii speak is a speaker phone knockoff), and finally the inability to allow all games to be played with the either the wii mote or a conventional controller killed this console for some people. Why? Well everyone is not all into the "waggle", some people look at the shoddy way 3rd parties implement this into their games. I personally say if you are not going to take full advantage, then give people the option of a standard controller. Proper HD upscale could have pulled more ps360 fans into the wii. To pay 900 to 10,000 dollars for a tv and then be told by a small console developer that "HD gaming is not needed" is a slap in the face to those who can and do own HD TV's. Up scaling games would have been the easiest route to allowing prospective wii owners to jump on board over the PS360 IMOB.
