Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A heads up to those looking forward to Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but EGM did a writeup on the games of E3 and also made a list of all the playable games they tried broken down into the following categories: awesome, good, so-so, and terrible, take a guess where Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games fell under...  That's right, terrible, but the worst part is that the vast majority of games fell under the good and so-so categories (there were 9 under awesome which included Super Mario Galaxy) but only 6 games fell under terrible (Beautiful Katamari (360), Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire (Wii), Jenga (Wii), Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii), Pain (PS3), and Spider-Man: Friend or Foe (Wii, 360, PS2).  Anyways I've always found EGM dead on when they mention problems or that a game plays poorly, so the chances are very good that the game will be poor or average at best.

I had always hoped for this.

Oh, and nice job on 2k posts today.

I just find it strange that a game with both Nintendo and Sega's flagship mascots would be poor (or average). It seems only logical that they would want to put a lot of time and effort into the game to ensure it's stellar.

It actually got a "game of the show" award at Leipzig. The E3 build was a while back, and the reports have been pretty positive.

I'll wait until we get some reviews of a *final* version before bagging it out ;)

(it may be a Sega game - but Nintendo are overseeing it - they wouldn't let it become crap!)

 Even Nintendo isn't perfect...

F-Zero GX is the evidence that Sega shouldn't develop a game with Nintendo characters. Compared to F-Zero X it was a huge letdown.

That might be a matter of opinion. I love GX - and actually played it 2 nights back.

My main criticisms are that its too fast, too hard(core) - and that the battle mode wasn't deep enough.

I would be happy if the same team developed a sequel for the Wii -- with online features of course.

...

Don't forget that Nintendo is publishing M&S in Japan. And that it has the Olympics license (not a great qualifier for quality I know, but that things costs bucketloads of cash!).

My main issue with the game, is that it may turn out to be too shallow. But I'm not exactly the target audience...

It's very strange it got "game of the show" at Leipzig and especially that it beat Super Mario Galaxy.  EGM aren't the only ones that have put down the game (at least the E3 playable version of it), Joystiq and others panned it as well. Maybe it improved dramatically from E3 to Leipzig?  I guess we'll have to wait for the final version but I'll make a prediction now and I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong... The game will get a 76 average or under at Gamerankings.

Was Galaxy shown at Leipzig at all? From memory, it wasn't one of the titles Ninty focused on at the conference.

And wasn't it not playable at E3? Just some video footage?

Still 2-3 months till release, plenty of time for polish and fixes.

I didn't have that high of hopes for the game...I figured it'd be on par with Mario Party. Possibly good because of the fun games, probably bad because it's made mostly by Sega, and also features Sonic characters, which for the most part, suck because of Sega's doing.

Freakin Sega...stop screwing up! Aren't there just a bunch of fans that can come up with better gameplay ideas than you guys?

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

According to EGM they played Galaxy at E3 (maybe it was behind closed doors?).
