Forums - Gaming Discussion - The iphone is becoming a serious gamers machine guys.

I heard that the battery life span is short... and I'd hate to be left out with no phone because the battery dried up from gaming. I'd rather have a seperate device for gaming.

Yeah, the battery life's my biggest gripe with the thing. As soon as you do anything with it other than use it as a phone or an ipod the battery drains quick.

I have to charge it everyday, and that's probably about 4 hours use on average a day (it tells me my usage). Just browsing websites mainly, via wifi (using 3G's an even BIGGER drain on the battery).

it is a phone first man.

No one is buying it for gaming

this is the order.

phone calls
sms
mp3 player
camera
google maps
video player
games

What's with all the iPhone hate?

I have an iPhone and love it and game on it daily. Now my DS obviously has more games (and better ones at that) but I still have fun playing on my iPhone.

In the last 24 hours I have played these games on my iPhone:

StickWars
Space Deadbeef
Tap Tap Revenge (1 & 2)
Pocket God
Bejeweled 2

I have these games as well:

Spore Origins
Topple
Star Wars The Force Unleashed
Pac-Man
Monopoly Worldwide
Oregon Trail
Heavy Mech
Lux Touch
Tap Defense

And I will be purchasing these games next week after payday:

Wolfenstein 3D (remade for the iPhone by the original guy who made it)
Metal Gear Solid Touch

Why would you guys not want people to have fun with their games, just because you don't happen to enjoy those games dosn't mean you have to hate so much (I don't go around starting threads about how most FPS and for that matter "next-gen" games are pointless repetitions)

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

You should really check out the Assasins Creed game that came out today. It is just amazing looking and a total blast. It is a port of the DS version but with a big graphical improvement. For $10 it is totally worth it. Unless you own the DS version.

This is my biggest beef with the iPhone as well. Now if you only use it as a phone, browser, and local video/music viewer it should be more than enough to get most people through the day. But if you add in gamings the sucker gets eaten up. For instance Hero of Sparta, which is one of the best looking games takes about 3.5 hours to go from 100% to 10%. Of course there are ways to get a bit more out of it like disabling wifi/3G/EDGE and lowering the brightness. But people should not be expected to do that just to be able to get a reasonable play time out of it. If nothing else battery life alone will keep the iPhone in the casual only crowd. Of course Apple could always change that.

Too expensive to buy as a stand-alone gaming device, and I already own a cell phone.

The one plus the iPhone has going for it is the openness of Apple development. THey make it very easy for people to get the tools they need to make apps. Our dev team is considering it.

I have an iphone, and I hope great games come for it, but so far my PSP blows it away. To the OP: if you're so excited about the game in the link, then Ace Combat on the PSP would be the game for you. It had better graphics and better controls (unless they improve the current product drastically). It was one of the best games I've played on the PSP.
