Forums - General Discussion - Punishment/penalty Mclaren got from FIA

Taken from www.f1.com

"McLaren have been excluded from the 2007 constructors’ championship and fined US$100 million following Thursday’s FIA World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris. Drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton have not been penalized and are free to continue their fight for the drivers' title.

"McLaren have been excluded from the 2007 constructors’ championship and fined US$100 million following Thursday’s FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) hearing in Paris. Drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton have not been penalized and are free to continue their fight for the drivers' title.

"The WMSC have stripped Vodafone McLaren Mercedes of all constructor points in the 2007 FIA Formula One world championship and the team can score no points for the remainder of the season,” said an FIA statement.

"Furthermore, the team will pay a fine equal to $100m, less the FOM (Formula One Management) income lost as a result of the points deduction.”

The penalty follows McLaren’s admission that the team was in breach of the International Sporting Code through their possession of confidential technical data belonging to rivals Ferrari, who are now all but assured of the 2007 constructors’ title.

The FIA will explain the reasons behind the Council's decision on Friday."

Mclaren breached Article 151c of the International Sporting Code.

Nothing's cheaper than something free.

F1 vs FOTA, when too much power is in couple peoples hands.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

thank god the FIA didn't listen to you. Would've made F1 even more boring.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

I think that drivers should have got punishment too. It is no't fair that drivers can keep points what they have got with illegal car.

i just realised!! spyker won't be the last team OMG haha

Edit : even though the team is punished for having confidential documents of ferrari it doesn't mean their car is illegal

Ouch. o_O

Fortunately the star drivers from Finland left McLaren ages ago. Actually it seems Räikkönen left for Ferrari (the now sure-to-win rival of the offending party), so I suppose this is good news in a way.

Does this mean McLaren is dropping out, or do they have a chance next season? I don't really know squat about formula 1.

Suddenly their car hasn't got broken a single race and example renault suffer change of tyres (michelin->benetton) but mclaren not. That is too weird....

It's ridiculous IMO, if this was Super aguri and Spyker, then no one would care, (in Bernie Ecclestone's words) they should have just fined them, IMO. Though it's perfectly right the drivers didn't get punished, after all they had nothing to do with the incident.
