Forums - Gaming Discussion - Retired NFL Players Plan to Sue EA, Madden

I don't get this. Why should EA have to pay players that nobody remembers? You create a team with Joe Montana as the quarterback, Jerry Rice as receiver and a bunch of John Does around them (and you basically call them John Doe.)

I don't see how a former player is going to win a lawsuit because one of those unnamed players plays in the same position he used to.

Because they are using their likeness. Madden games always include the Super Bowl winning or NFL Championship teams. They have the 85 Bears, 89 49ers, or 91 Redskins, etc. in the game. Sure they'd change the players numbers and not list their names but it's still their likeness. If they don't want to pay the retired players then don't include their teams in the game. It's a slap in the face. EA is directly profiting off their accomplishments without giving them a red cent.

fifa is the best selling football game, then PES. Not this Madden.... Or does it mean american football because it is only popular/played/watched in one country?

/rant about fake football

I can name more Football legends than baseball legends because I hate the MLB

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I get that, but what is their likeness? If that is scrambled too and a generic substitute is used (it would just be foolish for EA to omit that if they get rid of numbers) Then what do the players have clain to other than stats (as was mentioned) and their position and year?

Sir, not only is there nothing "fake" about it, but it's also not popular/played/watched in one country. Rather, it's popular amongst all of North America and a portion of the Caribbean and Central America.

And it's played mainly in two countries.

bullshit lol Mexico is the bulk of centeral america and there national sport is futbol correct me if im wrong ^

Nobody said it was the most popular. Basketball is popular in the United States - possibly more popular than in any other country - but it's FAR from the most popular sport here.

Quit trolling and grow up. It IS possible to accept two different sports with similar names.

Nice try buddy, although soccer is the most popular, Mexico always brings the Dallas Cowboys once a  year and charges at least 2 times more than they would for the soccer national championship game. Also, Mexico has a small Football league and it has a game that is just as popular in central Mexico between Los Borregos del Politecnico and PUMAS. The only reason why football has not come to our counntry in its full capacity is because no one is willing to invest in it when you have the NFL next door and a minor league wouldn't be profitable since even Indoor Football players would make more money in America than in Mexico.

What are you looking at, nerd?

If they are using a Championship team of yesteryear. EA is using the likeness of the players on that team. Whether they "scramble" their data or not.
