Forums - Sales Discussion - What are you talking about, Sony's doing great in Japan

In those same 7 weeks, the charts never had Nintendo below 20 in the top 30. The PS3 only had two weeks where something was actually in the top 10, the Wii has had at least two every freaking week. This was PS2 country just a year ago.

PS2 2,120,250 Wii 1,967,250 Whoa. A system with 8% the userbase is selling 90% of the software as PS2. Japan adopts and discards systems rather quickly, eh?

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

That looks to be the trend in Japan. They choose one system over another and then they run away with it. They have done it with the ps2 vs. xbox and gc and with ds vs. psp.

I've realised whatever console Square supported took the victory. 1st: NES won 2nd: SNES won against Genisis 3rd: PS won against Dreamcast and N64 4th: PS2 won again 360 and gamecube 5th: Im guessing PS3 because of Square-Enix Handheld: DS won (its not official but its gunna happen) against PSP Square supported all of the consoles that took the gold in Japan and even in America and Europe but mostly Japan.

Seems right. Square is big on RPGs and it's no secret Japan can't get enough of those. I do think that the battle of Wii vs. ps3 in Japan is up in the air though. DS is getting a bevy Square games soon.

Indeed. Square did not support PSP till now, so I think upcomings titles like - FFT, FF:CC, FFI, FFII will boost sale a bit. Especially FF:CC - this is really new quality in the world of handheld's jRPG. Tactics will launch in May. Remakes of FFI and FFII in April. Soon we will know.

So you're saying FFXIII will move to the Wii, then?

The PSP gets Final Fantasy 7 : Crisis Core, and ports of Final Fantasy 1, 2, and Tactics, and I believe there was a Mana game for it as well, but I don't recall if it made it over to North America or not... The DS gets Dragon Quest IX, Final Fantasy XII : Revenant Wings (sequel), Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 (system seller for me!), a DS Final Fantasy : Crystal Chronicles game, plus let's not forget the backwards compatibility of GBA, so Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (my main save has 187 hours clocked, all 300 missions complete), Kingdom Hearts : Chains of Memories, and the ports of Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6, as well as Sword of Mana. That's all I can recall at the moment.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.
