Forums - Sony Discussion - Blu Ray Movies Recommended?

Starting a Blu Ray collection, but I'm only going to buy one when the following criteria are met:

1.) The difference is noticeable.

2.) The movie is actually good.

Problem:

1.) Movies wherein the difference is noticeable (high special effects movies like Transformers) mostly suck.

2.) The difference is not noticeable in good movies (good story movies like The Godfather or A Few Good Men).

So... which movies should I buy?

Man, the difference in The Godfather is very noticeable. It has been restored and looks great.

Another great movie that is definitely worth having on Blu-Ray is There Will Be Blood. Amazing.

Also, The Dark Knight, if you like it (I do).

If you want really good films, though, I'd recommend you to check out the Blu-Rays Criterion is putting out now. They already made some amazing looking DVDs and most of their movies are actually good.

the difference in The Godfather is obvious, but it's not noticeable. i mean to say, you don't really care that much about the picture quality because your focus is on the acting, the storyline, and the dialogue.

see my problem? most of these great films, you just tend to not look for the picture quality.

Planet Earth it is master piece it is must buy believe me

Anything WIll Smith Related.

Anything with Jessica Albas Fine ass in it.

Yeah..... You're criteria don't really explain what a "good" movie is so I'll just list movies I have in HD that are "good".

3:10 to Yuma
American Pie
Australia
Back to the Future Trilogy (fairly noticeable difference, although the grain in older movies can be annoying)
Crank (not necessarily a good movie, but I think it was one of the first filmed with an actual HD camera and looks great)
Death Race
Disturbia
Eagle Eye
Get Smart
Ghost Rider
Hancock
I Am Legend
I Robot
Independence Day
Iron Man
Knocked Up
Men In Black I&II
My Best Friends Girl
Pineapple Express
Pirates Trilogy
Rush Hour Trilogy
Seven Pounds
Sex Drive
Superbad
The 40 Year Old Virgin
The Bourne Trilogy (Great movies)
The Fast & Furious Trilogy
Transporter Trilogy (Not sure if 1&2 are on blu-ray)
Yes Man

I have some other but I didn't like them all that much

Hell Boy 2, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Transformers, I am Legend, (both) Chronicles of Narnia.

The above are some that I own and look amazing.

I have The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean (entire series), Rambo First Blood, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and The Rock on Blu Ray. All are awesome. I recommend any of them

1.) The difference is noticeable.

Buy porn. When you see the stretch marks, pimples, bumpy shaven skin, bullet wounds, and bruises you'll truly appreciate the sharp picture.

hm..

let's define good movies as something that'd score at least 75 on metacritic.
