At the time of this post vgchartz lists PS3's market share at 21.62 to the 360's at 29.78 million. A difference of 8.16 in favor of the 360 BUT what this doesn't take into account is dead consoles. I'm sure that tons of 360's have died and the owners simply bought new ones.

Basically we don't have a current realistic analysis of their actual market share but going by the recent numbers of video game sales I would suggest the PS3 and 360's market share is actually close to being equal and I think the developers know this.

Even with hardware faliure taken into account I don't think VGC's hardware tracking is incredibly precise anyway , they still do a good job by giving us a realistic idea of the marketshare set up with the data availble to them.

And how would you suggest we calculate faulty 360's without the data from MS ? alot of 360's would have been replaced by MS and the newer ones are reportedly more reliable .

Yeah I think the 360 still has the bigger market share, but not by nearly as much as we are lead to believe. I'm betting in reality the difference is more like 3-4 million as I'm sure at least 4-5 million 360's died without being replaced.

I seriously doubt that 4-5 million 360 owners neglected to get their 360's repaired , considering it's a legal requirment for MS to repair/replace broken 360's in the warranty period and the warranty period for the most serious 360 fault was extended along with the E47 error.

But all this is guess work really.

You do realise that the 360 RROD warranty only ended in mid-Jan?

Also, its cheaper to simply pay MS to fix it
