Forums - Gaming Discussion - If Metal Gear Solid were a movie, would it be praised as brilliant?

I am told over and over that Metal Gear Solid (particularly 4) is THE BEST GAME EVERY, sheerly brilliant, and so on.  This is because mainly due to the story and characters.  I am curious, if Metal Gear Solid were a movie series, rather than a game, would it be praised as brilliant?  Maybe not "Best movie ever", but a "Dark Knight" level movie for a given year.

METAL GEAR BLU-RAY WOULD BE SO DAMN EPIC

As opposed to a Metal Gear THEATER release?

I don't think so, no. The medium of telling the story wouldn't be the same, therefore I don't think it would translate as well. Also, often the story is just way too convoluted for the general audience, and most moviegoers would most likely be frustrated at it not making sense to them.

This would mostly be if it were based on later games, though, if it were based on the first one (or possibly the third one, I suppose), I don't think it'd be as bad. Don't think it'd be universally praised though. Unless they really pulled the transition off amazingly.

thats what i mean, if they made a movie it would be epic

just like dark knight have blu-ray edition and dvd

i dont think any one could play solid snake or the general

Nope. Just like a great comic book story can only be told in the comic book medium, and Dragon Ball Z is only great in animation form, Metal Gear Solid would be a HORRIBLE movie. Games are the best media form for Snake's story.

I don't think so. MGS has enough issues with it's storytelling as is, let alone if you condensed it into a 2 and a half hour movie

if it was just a movie, it would suck royally. apart from a couple of the fight scenes, its mostly dribble.

Hell no. Too much to type out why but live action hell no
