While its not impossible I don't think it will likely pass the 360 by 2011. The price cut will be huge for the ps3 if it gets a 100 dollar cut. I think we'll see that by the end of 09. PS3 will get a big surge through the first half of 2010 then slow down to the point where both 360 and ps3 sell at almost the exact same level again. Personally I'm not sure who will win between the two but I don't see either finishing with anything more than say....a 5 million unit lead over the other.

Yes, bad since it relies entirely on how much a pricecut would affect PS3 sales. Many people think (I'm not saying they are wrong since sometimes I include myself on such. But I tend to be over-cautelous haha) that PS3 will cross a price/software 'barrier' and suddenly become mainstream much like happened to the PS1 two years into his lifetime.

Right now, it would need to outsell X360 by about 65k every week to be ahead by 2011. If a pricecut actually comes later this year (let's say by the holidays) it would need 90k a week.

yup, and sony knows that MS can drop it again and they dont feel like losing more money, they cant effort it.

Without the economic crisis the war would have looked different. Its probably a good thing for the xbox360.

Everybody is talking about how huge the ps3 pricecut will be, but it might as well be a 'too little too late' case, if they do a pricecut anytime soon it wont be more then 50 dollars and probably only in America first. If they wait longer, they get behind further and the xbox360 is getting more competitive because of brand recognition.

One thing's for sure: if Sony needs to cut price, it will have to plan it very carefully to make sure a possible MS reaction has the smallest possible effect, for example delaying it so much that MS can't counter it in time to make it fully effective during next Xmas season. Or doing it in two phases so that if MS wants to counter both by significant amounts, XB360 Arcade would generate horrible losses.
A third way always implies delaying the cut as much as possible: this way, thanks to lower components cost, the cut could be bigger than what MS expects, so that if a reaction was already planned, it should be rethinked and tweaked in a short time.
