Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do people criticize PS3 for sales

I hate going to web sites and people saying " THE PS3 PHAILS"!!!! Then people ask why, then they say no ones buying it. Well if they would look at the sales they could see, yes they are in last for the sales of the consoles, but... 1. Its not even in any other country rather then America and Japan and once its does its gunna sell a hell of a lot more. 2. The 360 was released one year before the PS3. So of course its gunna have more sales. I esspecially hate it when 360 fanboys say the PS3 sucks because no ones buying it. When they say that I say "Well the 360 had a year head start and its already losing in Japan to a higher priced console." Well this is gunna be a dumb topic, im not to sure why im posting it but I wanna hear what people think about other people saying there favorite console fails because its not selling that great at first.

Developers and gamers gravitate towards the sytem which is selling "Best" ... which then causes a self fulfilling cycle where gamers buy a system because it has the most games and developers produce games for a system because it has a larger userbase. Now, why people talk about how poorly the PS3 is selling they tend to be comparing it to systems which sold at a similar rate; these are not good comparisons to the PS3 because many of these systems failed (Dreamcast) ...

I think most people agree that the PS3 is doing pretty well. It's just not selling as much as the Wii, which is what most people care about. PS3 sales will pick up to be sure. That doesn't mean the others won't though as well. I can see the Wii selling steadily for a long time, and the 360 still has a big road ahead.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

There is no question that PS3 sales in Japan have bordered on terrible. The sales in the US have been solid - without spectacular. Compared to the PS2 it is doing real badly - software as well as hardware. The Wii is selling software 4:1 vrs the PS3. To answer your question - its simply because of these stats. They don't really mean a lot - we'll have a much better idea of how this is all going by the end of the year. And its also 'cos the PS2 was the dominant console of the last generation - that is why people are picking on Sony. No one really cares that the PS3 is still outselling the 360 in Japan easily (already doubled its install base) - as there weren't huge expectations for it (in Japan at least);.

Do you realise that the PS3 couldnt sell that many because there wasnt enough units for launch in Nov, Dec, and part of Jan? When PS3 units were then getting on shelves it was half way through Jan, and it looks like the 360 is only about 55,000 copy's above.

Which is exactly why MS launched the 360 a year early. They had a 3m unit lead in the US and only added to it when the PS3 launched because they had units on shelves. Sony and Nintendo didn't (atleast in the US). PS3 isn't doing "bad" - afterall, it's a miracle that anyone was stupid enough to pay $500-$600 in the US for a console that only has 1-2 games on it the 360 doesn't. So sales are relative. It's hard to compare - the PS3 is killing every other $600 console made in history, combined, but is selling only 1/2 as quick as what the PS2 did worldwide.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

It's a relevant topic, and was asked in a most welcoming manner, so I'll offer my appreciation with a detailed response. PS3 is averaging 20k a week sales average this year in Japan (bad) PS3's biggest Japan seller for several months only pushed about 20-25k consoles over the previous week. Virtua Figher 5 for PS3 bombed in japan (5-6k last week, still under 75k copies sold) PS3-vs-Wii is 1+ million consoles behind in japan, 800k behind wii in North America, and just under 1.5 million behind in Europe, where it will launch this month (with 1 million total supposedly). PS3-vs-360 is 400k ahead in Japan, 4.45 million behind in North America (while barely outselling 360 in January), and 3.34 million behind in not-launched-yet Europe. The PS3's software sales are horrible all over, hardware sales are okay in North America, Europe is launching later this month. The 360's software sales in North America are great, mediocre in Europe, and practically non-existant in Japan, with hardware repeating this. The Wii's software sales are excellent in all 3 regions, and the hardware is still selling out overall in all 3 regions. Oh, interesting note is that in japan the PS3 is behind the gamecube's sales at the same point in it's life, in both hardware sold and software attach ratio, and the gamecube sold less than 5 million in japan during it's life.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Do you know that PS3 has less than 10 games in the three months? Nobody want to buy a console without a favorite game. When a lot of good games like MGS4,LAIR,heavenly sword are released more people will buy a PS3.I think PS3 will surpass 360 at the end of 2007

the ps3 is not selling bad its selling as the 360 in USA and much more in japan and will sell better in Eu some info to prove that the ps3 aint seling bad (however not great )
