Forums - Sales Discussion - Is Wii Number 1 for good?

I don't think many people will buy a 360 for Halo 3. Didn't many FPS lovers get it when GoW and Crackdown came out? So shouldn't MOST (not all) of the people who will get this game, already have the system? Like how I don't think Mario will sell many Wiis. People who will get that game most likely bought a Wii already.

No, FPS lovers didn't get a 360 for a Thrid Person Shooter and a sand box game.

I think with Halo 3 the 360 could reach 12 mil WW by the end of October.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Well, there are over 10 Million 360's... and Halo 2 sold around 8 million... Seems like there's enough 360 owners to cover it.

Games like Halo 3 end up being factored into people's buying decisions from before the game is announced until the console physically stops selling; as a result of this the monthy boost in hardware sales from Halo 3 will be large but not unbelieveably so ...

A way to think about this is to consider Nintendo's library:

  • At launch and for the months following many Nintendo fans bought the Wii because The Legend of Zelda was available and they knew that Metroid, Mario, and Super Smash Bros. would become available in the future (you can add Mario Kart or whatever your favourite Nintendo properties are)
  • As a big game like Metroid Prime 3 was about to be released people bought a Wii because The Legend of Zelda was available AND Metroid Prime 3 would soon be available AND Mario, and Super Smash Bros. would become available in the future
  • After a big game like Metroid Prime 3 has been released people are buying a Wii because The Legend of Zelda and Metroid Prime 3 have been released AND Mario, and Super Smash Bros. would become available in the future
  • And so on ... (this continues with every major release that people are interested in)

Basically The Legend of Zelda, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl will have factored into the sale of millions of Wii systems yet you probably would not see the sales of Wii systems themselves to be boosted by millions of units around the release of any of these games.

halo 3 will atmost double 360 sales for 1 week. wii will remain in lead.

I think it's number 1 WW for good. In America, there's a chance that the 360 could delay the inevitable with Halo 3, but it seems certain that Wii will dominate.

Also, I think there is alot of Halo fans who have yet to buy the 360. Just like FF or MGS or Mario fans might be holding off, Halo fans haven't had the kind of incentive to jump in yet. If you're waiting for Halo 3, why purchase a console for a higher price only to have to wait monthes or years for that game you really want to come out on it?

i don't see the 360 taking over the wii this year at all. the invididuals who wanted a 360 have already bought it. come on two years in and all those games, i just can't seem to believe that halo 3 means that much to people who havent bought a 360 yet. but a could be wrong.

i do feel that the 360 has a chance to beat the wii next year though. seeing as i am of the opinion that after this christmas the wii will begin to decline in sales as all of their main titles would have hit shelves already. and the other two formats have many others titles waiting to be tapped.

i feel the wii will have spent itself quicker than it took for it to take off.

Yes true, maybe all the original people who had halo do have 360s, but that is why MS is hyping it.

Again it comes down to what people hear about each console and the games it possessess

Right now people will be like

"hey this game is really really popular, maybe i should give it a try" and if they like it or also see the great library, boom potential costumer.

I think it will be a combination of former halo 2 people buying 360 for halo 3 ( i know a few friends who will) and new people the hype will draw in.

Back on topic: I see the 360 most likely outselling the wii in the US for a little bit, but def not world wide, not with japan rejecting halo. Wii has the lead for the rest of the gen in my mind

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

I believe Wii will be number one in total sales and monthly sales until Wii 2 comes out.

I believe it will outsell the wii In October but I believe it will outsell the Wii also around crishtmas time. (If Nintendo can't push enough Wii's on the market).
