Forums - Sony Discussion - Should SONY extend there warranty?

im asking because the YLOD (yellow light of death) is somewhat more of a problem then people think... ive been to other game forums and seen multiple thread on how to fix it because there warranty has expired and ive just read microsoft has extended there warranty for the error E74 which isnt as bad as there RROD but they still did it. the ps3 is a 399euro console with a failure problem i think the ps3 warranty should extend to 3 years aswell.

I'm sure they're going to take your advice into consideration.

Ylod only happens outside of warranty

I think their current method of agreeing repairs on a case by case basis is fine unless the problem were to grow a lot bigger at this time. Microsoft I think included the E74 cover so it lowered another sales barrier of reliability concerns.

Hell yeah they should. I got the YLOD in january i haven't sent it in yet because I am hoping sony would annouce an extended warranty. I was going to fix it on my own, but i did a little reseach and found out that the mother board is fry thats why it is causing the problem.

not really, that usually only occurs when the ps3 does not have proper ventilation or they play WAY TO MUCH

Everyone I know that it has happened to rarely uses their PS3's, have them in well ventilated places, and most of the use came from watching movies so I doubt it's usually from playing it too much.

I would like to mention that when my 360 was only a few months old I called up Sony and asked if I could pay for an extended warranty.

MS does it , never called Nintendo so I don't know about them..

So I was talking with the lady and said I would like to update my PS3's warranty for an extra year..

I said it's still under warranty and all... lol

She said "yes, I know PS3 has only been on the market for a few months..

but Sony does not offer an added warranty offer"

I didn't think a company like Sony, thats all about quality and and obviously make great consoles would not offer an extended warranty though their own company..

I mean thats just extra money in their pocket for a little peace of mind to the consumer..

Just Saying...

well YLOD is nowhere as widespread as the RROD or E74... actually wouldn't extending the warrantees keep MS from legal issues (which is most likely the reason they did so)
