Funny, the thread title is "Who actually believes that GT series IS more popular than Halo series." Gathering from that, I believe it is safe to say this thread was created more on the speculative side of the issue.

That's what I've been saying! Mostly everyone else has been acting otherwise.

Past sales have nothing to do with the speculative popularity of Halo3 and GT5.

I would agree with you for the most part here, but there are some undeniable things to take away from past sales numbers. GT has a huge fanbase. And GT5:P has sold more than double of what GT4:P had sold.

And yes, fan base (which is substantially larger for Halo3 than GT5 as I have proven time and time again) is a huge measuring factor in popularity.

You haven't proved that the fanbase is bigger for Halo at all from what I've read (to be fair, I've only read from page 6 on). In fact, I don't know how you can prove this without using sales.

For your viewing pleasure I have included the Websters dictionary definition of the word "popularity"

No need for pretentiousness, my friend. If we're to talk about popularity, I'll assume none of us are so dense as to not know what popularity means. I simply asked you on which criteria do you measure popularity for a product, throwing out someone else's definition doesn't answer the question. There are several types of popularity: social, general and mainstream (As far as I know, there may be more?). I would assume we're talking mainstream popularity, which would take into account the quality of being common, well-received, and in demand. To prove anything, first we'd have to find a way to measure these criteria.

The quality of being common. That's a really difficult one to do, it's the one you seem to stress a lot. As difficult as that is to measure, it's made even more difficult to do coming from a perspective of living in a country where 72% of one fanbase is as opposed to 29% of another (based off Halo 3 and GT4 respecitvely). Sure Halo is getting a movie, but so has Bloodrayne. Secondly, it's not surprising that a game that is so disproportionately popular in America is getting a movie. It is, afterall, where most movies are made. *Kind of funny to think of a movie they could base on a simulation game like GT though*

Well recieved. Again, difficult to tell as GT5 hasn't come out yet. Basing this off user reviews from their PS2/XBox iterations, they are near the same, with GT3 being a bit higher than GT4, Halo 1, 2 and 3. Not a great comparison, I know, but I'm not sure how else to compare this.

In demand. Once again, it's only silly to compare until GT5 comes out. The only measure I can think of is of growth rates. GT5:P has sold more than double what GT4:P had sold. GT4 and Halo 3 sold about the same amount worldwide. Can we assume GT5 will grow similar to what GT5:P has sold? No... and I sincerely doubt that it will. The userbase of PS3, I think, is dramatically different than it was with PS2. So, who knows, I could be wrong, but to state that "It has already been proven the Halo series is more popular than the GT series" is incredibly presumptuous.

Hell, I don't even know why I'm arguing anymore. I could care less about either series.

You forget that GT2 was heavily bundled, a brilliant move on the GT franchises part, it's kinda like what coke did in WW1. they gave coke to all the troups for free, and when the troops came home, they all enoyed the taste and bought it, that rocketed coke sales and put them on the top. So using that knowledge it is fair to assume that GT3 sold well because of the heavy bundling of GT2.

Didn't work out for Motorstorm and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift nor did it work great for Resistance and Resistance 2.There was a huge drop off there. I'm not entirely convinced of this, nor am I really sure where it came from. I had only mentioned GT3 due to it's high user ratings everywhere for 'well recieved'.

I also would like to point out a key word in the thread title yet again "Believes" so this is more speculative. So far the fan base is highly skewed towards Halo3, the purchase base is highly skewed towards the GT series. I own several games I enjoy, that doesn't mean I am a fan of them, In retrospec I probably wouldn't have purchased them because to me they ust weren't worth the money.

I understand where you're coming from there and I completely agree with the italicized part but is there really any way to show that GT owners are not repeat buyers? With the lowest game selling 8+ million, I'd imagine there is quite a large fanbase. Maybe less vocal, but there nonetheless.

The reason you are arguing is simply for the debate. thats why I am doing it, and I like to see fanboys squirm! In reality, I could care less which series is more popular, I enjoy the Halo series, and have never played GT (probably won't because I SUCK at racing games) but I beleive both games cater to a different audience. Clear enough fer ya?

Lol. I'm not sure I enjoy making fanboys squirm. I guess I was just in the mood . Anyhow, I think we're pretty much at a point where we'll simply have to agree to disagree on some of the stuff.

sorry ment selling 10 millon i wish it would sell that much but these stupid games (forza need for speed shift) and people who switched to xbox will eat away its numbers unless we find out at e3 thats its coming out in august or early september hopefully with a bundel

Dude Forza is an extremely good racing sim, it offers basically everything that GT offers, just doesn't have as good of graphics and it doesn't have the name behind it either.

neither the amount of cars or racing tracks.

Forza 3 will have 100 tracks and 400 cars. Don't know yet about GT5.

600 cars and around 100 tracks also.

From what I've heard GT5 won't be release until atleast 2010. Maybe till then they will have 1000 cars.

I thought GT5 was a PS4 launch tittle?
