Forums - Website Topics - What is VGChartz's Weakness?

Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask you all a simple question.  What is VGChartz's weakness?

Do you think we don't report enough news?

Are the numbers not accurate enough?

Is the community not welcoming enough?

Is the website's layout not the best?

Let me know here and we'll try to fix it!

the design of the site is a MAJOR weakness.

However, reports are Brett is working on VGChartz 2.0 that gives the sites look and functionality a major overhaul.

I sure hope it looks and navigates a lot better, cuz theres a ton with the design of the site that I really don't like.

Well, like any good drug, it's habit-forming after one taste.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

VGchartz gets alot of things right, the only thing I would like to see is the ability to edit thread titles. Also, I would like to see the ability to change username, but to ensure its not abused it could cost VGChartz$, perhaps say $3000 to change username, something like that. Overall though the site is pretty great. I would like to see modding overhauled though. They seem to operate on a 'one rule for you, one rule for someone else' basis, they lack consistency in otherwords. They are also unfair imo, it feels like they pursue certain members to the exclusion of others and are deliberately bias in their modding, like they have vendetta's. They're also needs to be more as their are occasions where their are no mods on site and I imagine that sometimes the workload is very heavy which leads to a decrease in quality of performance. I also think that perhaps some sort of ranking system for the mods would be good. Level 1 mods could only edit posts and send warnings while level 2 could fine/ban you and level 3 could delete accounts/ban ip's. That way mods would have to prove their responsibility and hopefully the quality of the modding would go up. Be nice as well if there was someone to mod the mods themselves.

I agree the design is a weakness. I imagine it worked well when there weren't as many functions on the site, but this is why we are all eagerly awaiting VGC 2.0.
The aesthetics are important after all.

Btw, in case this isn't being worked on for VGC 2.0, having Online and IM standing under your username looks awkward, and is definitely not a good solution aesthetically.

And of course, the more accurate numbers, the better. Always improve on those!

More women ... and beer , not enough beer !.

Also the mods could stand to be a bit more polite when sending out their messages.

Its hard to provide criticism for such a brilliant site.

I personally hope that the home page does not get an overhaul in terms of content. I love the fact that all information is summarized on one page. Maybe a small improvement would be to increase he number of hot topic tabs, so that one could simply sort on Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Gaming sales etc. I think the forum / community is one of the strengths of this site, and people should be enticed as much as possible to join in on the discussion.

One thing i do really hope we get in 2.0 is the possibility to manipulate figures/data more easily, or more automated analyses of game and console sales. The VGChartz database is a number nerd's wet dream, and though we are already spoilt with options to analyze data, there is scope for so much more.
