Forums - General Discussion - Cakewalk or Garage Band

Any musicians out there?  Does anyone know which program is better for making a demo?

I don't know about Garage Band, but Cakewalk is pretty good.

You can also try Cubase and Frutty Loops.

^^ yeah I used to use Cakewalk but now I only use Cubase, I hear Frutty Loops is good two, what do you guys play ??? I play guitar, I also sing but only when nobody is around :) Haven´t been in a band for a while but I´m fine just playing on my own for now.

Tracktion is a fairly decent program that also allows plug in. If you are choosing between Cakewalk and Garage Band go Cakewalk Sonar it is far more flexible but it is definitely more complicated to use. For post porduction I recommend Adobe Soundbooth and Tracktion with some good VST plug ins to help remove unwanted sound. Garage band isn't a bad program to say but it is fairly limited but if you are competent enough wiht sound you may be able to get something out of it(hell someone painted the Mona Lisa in MS Paint and someone else made a feature Movie out of Imovie so anything is possible). Also get Pro-Tools it is available for both Mac OS X and Win XP. It does want an M-audio sound card but iti is a great program. On top of that if you are using a Mac go for Logic 7. It is technically made by Apple but only because they bought E-magic after 6.2.

I play guitar and, like you duderino, I sing when there aren't too many people around.  Right now It's time to get off my butt and go make a fool of myself.  I'm finally getting comfortable with my vocals and I'm trying to get some of my latest ideas down so I can sing to them.

Mrin Codex is me and my friend Josh (on Violin).  We're mostly street musicians.  Mostly during the summer we go to one of the local coastal towns that's got a popular pier and play for hours...for dollars.  Not very lucrative, but we get to practice and have a lot of fun doing it.

You got any stuff on myspace duderino?

That sounds great etecoon. I like the violin, but the guitar sucks... haha kidding :P

I play guitar too, and can play bass and piano to some extent. I don't really sing because I have such a deep voice. Also for some reason I haven't achieved to sing and play at the same time.

Is really cool that you can have a band even when is only for fun. I have some friends taht I play with sometimes, but they are some hardcore metalheads, so I can't really have a band with them. My girl friends have a more similar music taste compared to mine, but they are too busy with school so... there it goes too *sobs*

Garageband owns. Use it.

Personally I'd say Garageband. For simplicity it just can't be beaten imo. Cakewalk (at least when I used to use it...) was more of a MIDI sequencer than a full blown digital recording suite. Of course, Logic Pro needs a mention :)

Ok...so now there are even more choices.

Cakewalk....

Garage Band....

Cubase....

Frutty Loops....

Which is the best bang for your buck...and the easiest to get into?
